Nikon photographers in Todos Santos?
Hola Nomads,
I'm in Todos Santos with my Nikon d70s with a dead battery and no charger. By any chance anyone here with a Nikon charger. It's the same one for the
d50, d70, d70s and d100.
I realize it's a long shot, but a cold cerveza for you if you can charge my battery!!

Sad situation newbie. I do have that recharger (and same camera) but wont be in TS until late November. Sorry!
The grass is always greener....
and so, there is always a better spot in Baja

Being a nikon junkies, d70, d100, d200, d300, d5100 and soon a d800
and yes, I have updated, I don't have them except for the 5100 and 300
I wont be down, but wanted to tell you what I do.
If you go on ebay there is a company out of Hong Kong that makes some really small all in one Nikon chargers that have the power plug built into the
charger.
Hope you find someone with a charger

I am here in TS and have a D300 but I think it is a different charger than for the D70? Not sure but if you want to check call me at 612-151-8892

Just another reason to NOT buy a camera with proprietary batteries....
Bad luck....or bad timing.... I always carry a second charged battery in my camera case when using proprietary batteries.
Hope you get charged up in time.
Don't believe everything you think....

I have a Panasonic dmc-ZS5 that uses a proprietary battery (I like it for it's wider angle lens than my older Canon A70 and A720, both which use AA
batteries).
Most of my photos on my Smugmug website were taken with the Canons....love them.

if you LIVE in baja you want a proprietary battery in your camera
the batteries here are expensive and don't last long
recharging is actually better
think of how much money you save in the life of the camera
put that money toward a better camera
just DONT forget the charger

Yeah, that's what I thought. AA batteries are for point and shoot cameras. And, yes, Canon makes some good point and shoot cameras.
SLRs with interchangeable lenses need the strength of a proprietary lithium-ion battery that is rechargeable. You'd burn through AA batteries too fast
with an SLR with all they have to power; larger CMOS, larger LCDs, image stabilization, stronger flash...............

Find any charger of the same voltage, some wire and 4 alligator clips and voila!

Thanks for looking folks! I guess the iphone will have to do until family brings the charger and extra battery down in a couple weeks.
In my haste and excitement to come down for the season, I left the essential items behind...lesson learned...I also neglected to get extra tubes for
the motorcycle and of course got a flat the first week here, going to LP today for parts...Pretty small inconveniences in the big picture really.

Cabo might have a store with a battery. I needed a battery for my Minolta SRT many years ago - I was elated to find a small electric shop in Loreto
that had the right battery.

The cameras in the new phones, both IPhone and Droid are pretty impressive. My Droid has 8mp and does a pretty decent job. Having all the chargers
you need with you these days is a chore at times.
Post some shots when you get it sorted out.

Megapixels are never really the issue, anymore.
It's the glass and the level of control you get with the SLRs (multiple lenses, aperture control, focus control, etc.) that make them so much superior
to any multi-use imaging device.
And if you have room to carry other lenses, there's room for the charger, too...............especially on a Baja trip where you're packed to the
gills, anyway.

You don't think that I am suggesting that the cameras in smart phones are a substitute for a dedicated SLR camera with an arsenal of lenses? (I have
several DSLR cameras and over a dozen lenses that I don't even want to think about how much I've spent on)
My point was this gentleman, with the camera in his Iphone can capture decent images until he gets his D70 working again.
Your point about megapixels not being an issue is a complicated one. I would agree that thinking a point and shoot with 8mp will be the equal of full
sized SLR is ludicrous.
However.................
With a full sized SLR, if you crop your images and or print enlargements beyond 8" by 10", more megapixels will produce a more detailed image. I just
recently upgraded my 10mp Nikon to a 16mp Nikon and the images I'm getting after cropping and enlargements in the 8" by 12" size are noticeably better
images (more detail) than what I could produce with the 10mp camera. There is a valid reason that the "enthusiast" and pro model cameras now are all
exceeding 12 mp sensors.
FWIW (The Droid phone/camera I was referring to has control over: metering zones, ISO, flash, exposure compensation, resolution setting, white
balance, geo tagging, in camera settings for B/W, sepia, posterize, and more.)
