I heard tonight that the Old Mill Hotel closed in San Quintin. Does anyone know why?

Some friends and I stayed at the Old Mill the last week of September. While we were there they started putting up a chain link fence on the back side
of the property and they were going to shut it down for the winter. We have been going down there fishing for years now and have always stayed there
but lately the fishing has been lousy. Between the economy and lousy fishing there has been no one there, we pretty much had the place to ourselves,
a couple of other folks but not much.
The good news is that the place next door, the restaurant and bar over by the launch ramp is still open. They have really put some money into that
place, they have even built a little museum in that open space that was between the Old Mill hotel and the restaurant. Out on the dock they have
built a gazebo structure that serves drinks on the weekend.
Jim and Nancy said that they might re open around March next year, we will see.

With few exceptions, overall it was not a good summer for fishing in San Quintin - it just never seemed to warm up. There were more locals than
tourists going off the dock at the Old Mill this summer...

There's always El Jardines. I don't want to hype a hotel too much, especially after showing up last month and finding no vacancies, but cleanliness
and professionalism must be supported.
If you're ever in a bind, and the major San Q hotels are booked, try Hotel Los Cirios. cheap and clean.

This makes me sad. It was always the stop we made where we felt our trip South was close to complete. It was not the best or cheapest but it was our
tradition.

One hand washes the other
I would expect it would have been difficult to operate a destination hotel without a restaurant/bar. For several years the hotel has been doing just
that as the restaurant has been open, then closed, then open. Even when it was open the food sucked. I don't know about the new owners, though. Aren't
they the same folks who bought the hotel in Catavina?

Yes, it ws purchased by the Rodriguez family who completely remodeled it. Today it is a classy place with excellent food and service.

Or there are plenty of other places close by. Try Mission Santa Maria, Jardines ...or go into town.

The folks I was down there with that week and I figured that the restaurant/bar owners would buy out the Old Mill Hotel and fix it up. Now, that
would be a class operation!
