Tons of marijuana found floating in ocean waters off Los Cabos

http://www.pri.org/stories/world/video-tons-of-marijuana-fou...

04 November, 2011
Reuters

Mexican authorities conducted a massive, multi-day search of beaches and open water near Los Cabos after boaters reported pulling packages of
marijuana out of the water.

Officials in Mexico have seized more than two tons of marijuana found floating off the coast of tourist hotspot Los Cabos.

Mexican Marines spent two days scouring the ocean and found 200 packages of marijuana floating about 25 miles offshore from the city in the normally
peaceful state of Southern Baja California.

Law enforcement authorities are trying to link the abandoned marijuana to the drug cartels that have been active throughout Mexico. So far,
drug-related violence has killed more than 45,000 people since Mexican President Felipe Calderón turned up the pressure on the drug cartels in 1996.

I thought Los Cabos was not in the drug trafficking routes? When did this start?

The only worthwhile object I have every found on my dawn-patrol dog walks is a MRE (meal ready to eat). It was and I did. What would anyone would do
with a whole bale of commercial dirtweed?

".......since Mexican President Felipe Calderón turned up the pressure on the drug cartels in 1996."

Uh, that's not correct. He hasnt been in office for 15 years.

Why, back in 1996, it was business as usual with the PRI...........

Two years ago, while fishing between Punto Chivato and Santa Inez Islands, we saw a bale bobbing. We gave it a wide berth. Whomever was looking for it, be it police, navy or cartel, the consequence to the
civilian interceptor could be dire.

Mi esposa bonita and I rode the beach all the way to Cabo Pulmo the next morning just in case some of it drifted North around the corner. We didn't
find anything, just wanting to do our civic duty and help the local law enforcement officials keep the beaches safe and clean.......you know me,
always looking to lend a helping hand.

low value cargo compared to coke, meth and heroin. Probably just testing their new smuggling routes. Nothing has stopped their Baja Norte
panga-shuttle for human smuggling- so why not move drugs that way? Well, obviously they already are.

Anyone who has spent any time on the beach in Cabo knows that in the last couple of years, (did not Mexico de-criminalize marijuana?) has been
approached by beach vendors selling pot.

As for trafficking route, despite the recent shootout outside Cabo, BCS has been quite quiet. Anyone traveling the highway North of La Paz has
probably noticed that the long time military checkpoint just above Centenario/ Comitan, has often not been manned by armed military. What does that
tell us?

Scientific question

What does seawater do to pot?

Could that be what makes surfers speak the way they do or are they just natural born idiots?

This is cutting edge science at work. They're growing it out there...just like Kelp. It's a new Hydroponics discovery that was developed in Sewege
Treatment Hyacinth Ponds.
