Want a Puppy, Anyone?

While returning from Mission San Javier over the weekend, we came across these two cuties abandoned in the desert a few miles outside La Paz. Their crime: being b-tches (as the owner of a few b-tches over the years, I know first-hand the difficulty in finding new homes for female puppies). I couldn't just drive on by and ignore that I saw them, so we chased them down and brought them home. Now my intention is to fatten them up and find a home for them. That, or eat them in tacos. So if any of my fellow Nomads living in the La Paz area are in the market for a desert-proven puppy, drop me a U2U.

Thank you!

For your kindness to these two little cuties !

I'm not able (stuck in Idaho til spring) to take one, but I'm touched by your good heart. Good luck with new homes. They're so cute SOME good Nomad soul will want the company and companionship that only a dog can provide.

Yes, but doggies were an Aztec tradition, and we do live in Mexico, after all. They probably taste like chicken, doesn't everything?

You did a good thing Bajatripper. I have always found that the females in the litter are the first to go.

For years...we ate "chicken" tacos down at Cozumel. One day my regular cab driver and I were talking.... I said something about the good taste of chicken on the island.

He pulled over on the highway that we were traveling on...he then pointed to the iguana on the tree trunks and said... Cozumel has no chickens! True story.

hola Bajatripper,

it was very kind hearted of you to take these pups in.

there is a group in la paz as there is in los barriles that may take them in and spay them, give them their shots and try and find another kind person to adopt them.

i will try and find the name of the group for you and send it to you.

Centro de salud in La Paz will spay for free and shots too. Once they are "fixed" and have their shots and are cleaned up they are very easy to adopt out. The locals will not pay or bother with spaying (typically) but when an animal is spayed or neutered it becomes all of a sudden a "status" symbol. Really, it works. Hope this helps. They are cute.

Those are two really handsome pups, and look like they would be loyal and intelligent forever friends. Sweet faced. Hope people step forward and adopt a new addition to their family, and thanks for doing a good deed and keep us informed.

I'll take a Hembra over a Macho any day. At least they don't go around lifting their leg and peeing all over everything.

Yeah, totally agree. I've only had one male dog in my life, and he came with my wife. Nice dog, but hated the way he had to pee on everything. My BBQ grill has a rust area in the shape of a pee run.

Thanks for the suggestion, C-Urchin. I looked into spaying on the Internet and found out that doing it too early can lead to aggressive behavior in female dogs, something I'd rather avoid if possible (although it is common practice to spay even at 8 weeks, most often in the case of animal shelters).

My problem is that for sure I will fall for these little darlings if I wait the recommended time and then not be able to part with them later. I already have two dogs and don't know what I'd do with two more (although, against my better judgement, I'm already seriously considering keeping one of them).

Please, someone out there, help me before I adopt again!

There is a group in La Paz that's Called Baja Dogs, they rescue dogs all over the La Paz area and usually find good homes for them all over the place, they have a small space to keep the dogs but they do what they can with donations, great people who love dogs, maybe you can get in touch with them!

Here is there website! http://www.bajadogslapaz.org/

It's great to know that people like you still exist!!! Those pup's are so very lucky to have found a friend like you, even if it's not permanent!!!! Hope all goes well!

As one who is owned by a male dog, I have learned to go with the flow.:o Paco has taught this old dog new tricks. I have this quirky urge to lift my leg and it enables a great sense of relief. :bounce:

bajatripper- those are great looking pups! Thank you for their rescue. I know the risks of falling in love with them. Good luck!

Well, for one of them this has become a permanent arrangement. The ugliest of the two (which is still plenty cute) has all of the qualities that I like in a dog and so now I've decided that she'll stay.

I'm sure the cutest of the two will be easy to place, she's just too damn cute not to be. Once she's gotten some weight on her bones and has had her shots and whatnot, I'll start peddling her around.

And thanks, Serenita, for the info. I'll keep it handy, just in case.
