| The Spanish Missions of Baja California

Recent photographs, as well as many old photos, show nearly all of the mission sites in Baja: http://davidksbaja.com/bajamissions (GPS location data for most sites as well).

| California's missions began in Baja!

 Because Baja was 'California' FIRST!

 Any comments or questions?

What is your favorite mission to visit?

Does it get you angry to see so many books say that San Diego was the FIRST California mission!?

| Thanks, David

 Thanks for the thread, David
Just another reminder for Nomads in the Los Cabos area the Ed Vernon, "Las Misiones Antiguas", will be at Pez Gordo Gallery this Thursday for a book
signing. Come and talk to the man who has seen them all.

Yes, while Ed is down that way, he and Jack Swords are going to do some exploring... such as places like this:

http://community-2.webtv.net/boojumtree/ocio/ (Manuel de Ocio's hacienda at El Oro)

or this: http://community-2.webtv.net/thebaja/lapresa/ (Fernando de la Toba's hacienda at La Presa)

or this: http://community-2.webtv.net/drdrip/swords/ (El Progreso mines at El Triunfo)

| Got it!

Just got back from trip into the hills with Ed following Tom?s Robertson's description of an old Jesuit era chapel ruins. Found it, photographed and
GPS'ed. Great find. Photos to be sent to David.

Excellent! Baja history lives... and seen before it is carted off to build a casa or lost to weather!
