My experience....
I bought the Tom Tom 550 XXL TM from Costco.
I like it... The free (for life) traffic and maps is a killer deal...
If you don't have a bluetooth ear/mic for your cellphone, a GPS with bluetooth might also be worth considering as the feds and states consider more
bans on cell phone use while driving.....
I'd suggest you do your research and buy the gps that has the features and support that you need & want, not just an advertizement or a name.

Its all just stuff and some numbers.

We got this Tom Tom last year and love it. Quarterly free map updates is just fantastic. We have used this in Baja and it works GREAT!
We also will use it all over Europe.
I would recommend it and the price is very good.
Just my opinion.
Check out this link. We bought ours online.

I'm not certain about autorouting in Baja as I did not try it. We only went to Ensenada and the gps maping worked like a charm.
We used this Tom Tom in Germany last December it was a champ! Routing and rerouting worked great and we hit several detours on that trip.

i don't know about the tomtom units, but the tomtom smart phone app for n america (US and mex) has very poor mexico maps, only has street maps for a
few major cities in mex. BUT the gps hardware units are diff than the smart phone apps, i think.
tomtom user interface is better than garmin user interface. i use tomtom app on my iphone, it rocks for use in usa, is much better than garmin app.
summary: research the map coverage before you buy.

don't believe the free-for-life hype! When garmin bought navigon they did not honor the prior navigon agreements.
tomtom and garmin are in financially bad shape, as no one is buying their hardware, and people now mostly buy smart phone apps. companies unlikely to
survive in long term, acquisition, ,erger or liquidation likely. also, hardware goes obsolete so fast that free-for-life is unlikely software
commitment. doubt you can buy new hardware without buying new software. mfgs don't sell separately.

before you spend big bucks on gps-only hardware/screen, consider buying ipad or tablet computer with built in gps receiver. large screen of tablet
computer makes maps much nicer. the small screens of gps stand alone hardware units are not too good.
someday all of will own tablet computers and smart phones, so stand-alone gps units are probably approaching quaint relic status. if gps hardware
costs $200 why not apply that $$ to tablet computer purchase?
