Anyone who has crossed the border at SY knows of this stuff. They sell it in the line.
Good stuff when made with care.

I love champurado with sweet Tamales, anyone have a recipe for sweet tamales? My mother use to make them for Christmas and i wished i had
her recipe.

Super simple

Put 1/2 cup of masa (para tortillas) in a saucepan along with 2/3 cup of water and stir to combine. Place over low heat and cook stirring constantly until it thickens (5 mins. +/-). Gradually stir in 1 1/2 cups of water and 1 1/2 cups of milk and continue cooking unti it bubbles. Add 1 tablet (1 1/2 oz) drinking chocolate (i.e. Mexican chocolate) to the pot along with a 3" stick of canela and 3 Tbls. brown sugar. Continue cooking over low heat until everything dissolves and the mixture thickens again, about 15 minutes.

You can make it with all water or all milk, you can add more chocolate if you want a more intense chocolate flavor, you can use more or less brown sugar depending upon how sweet you want it.

Ingredients
1/4 cup masa harina
3 1/2 cups cold water
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 cups of milk
1 (3-ounce) tablet sweetened Mexican chocolate, flavored with cinnamon
Directions
In a small mixing bowl combine the masa harina with 1/2 cup of water mixing by hand to form a paste. In medium saucepan add the paste and the remaining 3 cups of water. Bring to boil stirring constantly. Cook slowly for 20 minutes, the mixture will thicken. While this mixture is simmering, in another saucepan add the milk and bring to a boil. Add the chocolate and cook for about 10 minutes until the chocolate has completely dissolved. Pour the chocolate into the masa harina mixture stirring until well incorporated. With a milinillo or an eggbeater, whisk until a foam forms on top, about 3 minutes. Serve in a large bowl spooning some of the foam on top.

I was taught to make it in a double boiler using an egg as a thickener. Almost like making pudding.
