Hello fellow Nomads FWIW, as a sufferer of acid stomach for decades, I can tell you that the problem is caused by H Pylori, a bacteria that causes acid stomach and ulcers. It was discovered in the 80's by 2 australian doctors.
To stop the acid production with prilosec is the wrong way to go, your stomach is not creating too much acid, and you need acid to digest the food.

H pylori creates a basic shield / cover that's is why the stomach acid doesn't kill it.

Over the years I have tried everything possible, from volcanic clay, natural apple cider vinegar that works pretty well when you have acid stomach even though it seems that the neutralization of acid is what you would want. A teaspoon of ACV will cure it very quickly.

last week I was still searching for the cure ( something that will kill H Pylori) and found out that a lady ate some Epazote leaves, she claims that cured her form the H pylori bacteria. Epazote is used in mexico as a condiment for beans to prevent gas, to my amazement I bought a fresh bunch of the weed and ate some for breakfast and when getting indigestion after lunch and my stomach indigestion went away pretty quickly.
I think that the only way to stop acid stomach is killing the H pylori, here in Northern ca, doctors give you antibiotics, pepto bismol to try an kill the H pylori for 2 weeks then pro biotics to re place the bad bacteria with good ones. I tried twice the treatment and it hasn't worked.

I would suggest you eat some epazote when you get acid stomach and figure a way to kill the H pylori.

I will try the potatoe juice, I take daily mediterranean oregano which is also a anti bacteria like the epazote, daily and my acid reflux has decreased.

If you take anti bacteria to kill the H pylori you have to eat some good bacteria to replenish your digestive system. Greek yoghurt , acidophilus and others are good to have.

If anyone is able to kill the H pylori please let me know.

Mike, do you think it kills the bacteria or stops acid stomach and you get it agin on a different day, the reason I ask is that I live and know people that do not suffer from acid stomach at all, they may get indigestion if they over eat or eat a particular food but they do not have acid reflux / acid indigestion at all. They have no h pylori as my wife has been tested. I have no problem stopping the acid indigestion with epazote, or apple cider vinegar but I need to kill it!
Thanks.

CHARCOL

I used to climb, hike, camp, and do extended kayak camp trips ALOT.

Many times, I have seen deer, elk, moose, racoons, skunk, bear etc... Eating charcol out of my cold fire pit in the wee hours. I figured . . THEY do it for their stomach health. I wondered... If THEY use charcol, shouldn't it also work for people...?

Years ago while travelling in Asia, I saw simple charcol tablets for sale in herb shops to pharmacies.... In remote N. Thailand, in Taiwan, in Korea. . . I was told many times that charcol is THE natural stomach remedy.

I have reflux, as does my brother. I am generally able to control it with either charcol, or Aloe Vera, or sometimes cider vinegar.... I do have an Rx of Omeprazole, but I rarely need to use it.

I often have an Ale or a glass of wine in the evening.... sometimes red wine fires up the reflux.... So far beer has never done that to me, but I think moderation is a big fish in THAT pond, eh?

FWIW... I hope you find some simple, more natural relief.

Please post your results for others to benefit from!

Merry Christmas!
Djh

dandellion tea cures stomach ulcers

We have an herbal medicine store in our bakery/internet cafe/herbal remedies/therputic deep tissue massage business in Mulege known ss "Mago's Coffee and Sweet's". Please forgive my shameless effort at promotion. Anyway, The "Dandellion" known in Mexico as 'Diente De Leon" is excellent taken as a tea on a daily basis for your digestion and particularly for curing stomach ulcers. Aloe vera was mentioned and everyone should be taking a spoonful a day of that. For instant relief, a spoonful of baking soda in a glass of water is a slam dunk. I have a history of acid reflux. I took Nexium or it's main ingredient Esomeprazol which is found very inexpensively in Algodonez. After i cured the damage done from years of reflux, I found i'm now able to take a pill only on days where i know i'm going to abuse my stomach I.E. Thanksgiving, spicy meals, buffets.

If anyone has been able to completely eliminate acid reflux without upper stomach sphincter surgery, balloon implant etc. please post it. So far what we have are all solutions for temporary acid reflux relief.
There's millions of people taking daily anti acid pills, acid pump inhibitors etc. that only neutralize acid or stop acid production, what we need is a anti bacteria process that will kill the H. pylori for good. That is the real solution to GERD, ulcers, etc.
For now eating small portions, staying away from combinations of foods, (for me) pizza and beer specially if I eat a lot of pizza which is not hard to do. Sometimes wines, beers, spicy foods trigger the acid reflux.
I also take famotidine to stop the acid production if I know I will be going to a party where lots of food, and spirits will be consumed.

Common theme seems to be to eat, small amounts and take an anti acid after the meal; tums, apple cider vinegar, aloe juice etc.

Please post the cure if someone has it. Sorry if I took over the discussion!

4 years ago I developed moderate Acid Reflux, and my esophagus and vocal chords were being damaged while I slept (totally lost my voice). My doctor recommended a PEPSIC COMPLETE tablet every nite when I went to bed. That worked, but I found a much cheaper solotion at COSTCO-------KIRKLAND ACID CONTROLLER (Fomotidine) tablets which I cut in half with a pill splitter, and 1000 mg of Calcium Carbonate (generic for Tums) which COSTCO calls "ultra strength Antacid". Taking the 1/2 pill of Fomotidine and the 1000 mg (tums) duplicates the ingredients of PEPCID COMPLETE for a much cheaper price.

Works for me, and been doing it for 4 years--------no further problems with acid reflux at night. If I have a flareup during the day an additional 1000mg of Calcium Carbonate (a TUMS) seems to take care of it.
