FMM - Visas - Question
To All: The FMM 180 day visa, is this visa a multiple entry visa? Or is it legally supposed to be turned in when returning and crossing the border to
the U.S.
Thanks Brian

You will get conflicting answers... Personally, I keep it for return trips.

Thanks David, I do keep mine also, On another website for fishing, their is talk of the need for the visas for private boaters and people fishing on
sport boats out of San Diego, entering Mexican waters, but not setting foot on Mexican soil.
The way I see it, only two visas a year would need to be purchased. The uproar being, the need to purchase a new visa for every trip. I do believe
everyone has the right to request 180 days on the visa.
Thanks Brian

Brian,
1. FMM stands for Multiple Immigration Form, not multiple entry form. The form is used for a multitude of uses, for instance to get a tourist card,
student visa,an FM3 or FM2 plus many other sub categories.
2. this is what is written on the top front side that you filled out:
This form must be filled out individually by ever foreigner entering Mexico, including diplomatic personal, and will be handed in upon departure from
the country.
It seems pretty clear to me since is on an official Mexican Government Form and in black and white that it is not a multiple entry form and should be
surrendered as you leave Mexico...

For motorist, there is no box, or official you pass by along the road/ street leading to the border northbound to return the paper to.
Of the thousands of Americans traveling south with a tourist card, every week/ month, I will guess that next to zero returning north try and work
their way through city traffic to the southbound border offices, park their rig, and return the FMM to the INM office.
IF it was important to collect tourist cards upon leaving Mexico, then there would be someone along the road out of Mexico to do so (you would
think)... That being the case, Mexico has provoded a MAIL address to mail in your cards, before they expire... and not simply after a trip... I
discussed this with Discover Baja Travel Club who is an official vendor of the tourist cards.

That is what it READS, and if 1 takes that as written
there is no other INTERRUPTATION 1 can make.
However in practice, most keep it for mulitiple
trips and turn it in or not at expiration. The fact that it
is not EASY to turn it in to Mex Immigration
does not alter what is printed on the fmm about
returning it. But my experience is that Mex IMM does not
care in the least if you return it at all. There is the
sometimes overlooked free 6 nt 7 day fmm

Sancho, I have heard of people talking about the "free 6 night - 7 day" FMM. Have you or anyone ever picked one up.
I do not know of anyone. Where can I find information? I started this post due to the upcoming need for an FMM visa to enter Mexican waters via boat
and not setting foot on Mexican land. I have an FM-2 so I am covered. Any information on the "free" visa would be appreciated.
thanks brian
