Terry....if the Baja cops knew about this and thought for a second that the travelling drivers accepted it as fact, it would put an end to tourism

irresponsible to do long trips w/o safely securing dog. the dog can become a projectile, the dog may be injured (don't care if irresponsible owner is
injured).
p.s. i see this everywhere,... nothing is worse than people with rat- to skunk-size dogs on their lap while driving, that's my 2 cents! some fools
even have their 80 lb labs on their lap while driving 80 mph down the 5

secureing a dog
hola,,I not looking to debate..I'm interested in how, do you secure a 4 legged friend,,is there really a dog seat avalable ?? I have dragged a boat
from alaska to panama,,with dogs and and have never seen a dog with a seatbelt,or restraint..as alway's,, I'm missing the boat on this one ???

I don't see that much, Goat. Not with dogs. I do, however, see a lot of it with small children on laps with no belts and leaning into the dashboard.
They're like human air-bags, I guess.

We drove through CC three times these past two weeks. Got two hard looks with our kayak on top but no stops. We even spent TWO nights at a motel there

Drove through yesterday (Thursday) about 3 PM. Nada! Police out and about, could care less. Our two dogs were in the back seat enjoying the
scenery. Distance between Guerrero Negro and La Paz seems to have gotten greater.

Hola, I have alway's noticed,that right around xmas,the cop's are much,much more aggresive about mordida,,,it's money for xmas..my grand ma(moma
marta) who lived in la paz,since I belive,, the mid 60's, also told me that,and she should know !! but I would still like hear some fact's about
restraining a dog,and has anyone,,anyone seen this?? Keith & lil tasha

It is not illegal in California. I seriously doubt it is illegal in Mexico. Both times we were let go without paying a fine. If it were a law, I

In California:
California Vehicle Code section 21700:
No person shall drive a vehicle when it is so loaded, or when there are in the front seat such number of persons as to obstruct the view of the driver
to the front or sides of the vehicle or as to interfere with the driver's control over the driving mechanism of the vehicle.
Amended Ch. 1500, Stats. 1965. Effective September 17, 1965.

My dog is a calm traveler. He has the whole super crew cab of my Ford F150 pickup as his penthouse suite. For all of his ten years he has ridden
comfortably and safely there. He is never allowed in the front seat! We take many multiple day trips including Baja Sur. We also take short trips in
town, running errands.
He would not be able to make the adjustment to a restraining device. (Neither did I.) I hate seatbelts and only wear them because I would get ticketed
for not wearing it. Big Brother, insurance lobbies and cops see to it that I comply. (Leave me alone, already!)However, regarding dogs, I pass cops
all the time, in the U.S. and in Mexico. They often have a clear view of my dog looking out the rear side window.
I am not refuting the report of mordida shakedowns in Baja for dogs inside the passenger compartment. I am just saying that it has never happened to
me. Even if it does, I would continue to drive with my dog in the crew cab, unrestrained...lesson unlearned.
I feel confident that he and I are safe while I am driving. My objective is to create the most comfortable traveling environment for my dog. The
payback is that he never whines or creates any other type of anxiety while traveling. He mostly sleeps. We get out of the truck often and pee
together.

This is a good law for good reason. However, it does not apply to dogs riding in a crew cab or the rear seat of a car, so long as it is not in the
front or licking you or otherwise impeding your driving.

My theory is that the more you do the same drive, the longer it gets. Lacking the sense of discovery, it tends to become increasing boring, with or
without a dog.
