Temporary Import Permits
I'm trying to get some input on the new T.I.P's that are supposedly required to bring a boat into Baja. I trailer a 15' Klamath down every year and
have seen on Bloodydecks and the Vagabundos webpages that we now need a permit to do this. I've also heard that boats of 15' or less do not need a
permit (my Klamath is actually 15' 2")
Does anyone have first hand experience with this? Is 15' really the cutoff?

I'm speaking from first hand experience...
I had to argue my way out of a permit for my kayak!
Cost me two hours at the aduana.

I had a Klamath just like yours and they wanted the TIP. You can do it online very easy.

Same thing happened to me and my yak at Otay. P-nche burro wanted registration for my yak. 30 minutes of my life wasted arguing with an idiot.
Finally comparing the yak to a surfboard and not needing registration for a surfboard got me thru secondary.
Though I don't believe TIP is needed for Baja, getting one for my boat.

Another quick question...
When I leave Mexico after my 6 week vacation do I need to get it confirmed with Mexican customs that the boat has left the country?
I have no problema with the $50 permit, but running down the right person at the border to sign me out would be a giant pain in the burro.

No. Most everyone over here that has a TIP does not report it leaving the country, UNLESS IT IS A PERMANENT DEPARTURE. Just make sure you remove the
TIP sticker if you decide to sell your boat if you want to get another boat imported. Have heard of some problems with that.
