US Passport cards available on-line (pilot program)

http://travel.state.gov/passport/ppt_card/ppt_card_5648.html

No need to send anything in by mail or wait in line at the consulate. Enter all your current passport info, attach a digital photo, pay the $30 and
you are done.

"The pilot will last 90 days (January 24-April 22) or until we receive 20,000 applications, whichever comes first. At that time, we will assess the
merits of making the pilot a permanent option for the traveling public."

"Q:What if I don't have a passport book? Can I still participate in the pilot? A:No. You must have a passport book (10-year validity) to participate
and the book must be in your possession. During the application process, you will be asked a series of questions, and you will need your passport book
to answer them. "

That is easy, I think for those without a regular Passport
you have to apply in person for the passcard. I don't
know why Ca. and other states don't issue the
Enhanced Drivers License, there are a few that
do, includ. Wash State. These are good for land/sea crossings , they cost a few more $ than the regular
DL. Seems they would have more participation with the
DL program, as it stands, I've read that approx. 65% coming
back to the US have the required paperwork. Although
I don't believe you can get an fmm with the Enhanced
License, probably because mex IMM aren't familiar
with them

So my question, if you have a SENTRI, do they consider that a passport card?

It says you can't apply if you already have a passport card.
I am assuming that they do consider it one in the same.

I don't think so. The SENTRI lanes are for SENTRI card holders only. Your passport card is not the same thing. Can you post the info about not
being eligible for SENTRI is you already have a passport card? I have SENTRI, so I'm curious about that statement. The GOES website states that you
can use your SENTRI in lieu of a passport (i.e., you don't need both), but you need a valid passport to get the SENTRI.

Sentri and Passcard I believe are 2 separate programs,
although I don't see why someone who had Sentri
would want/need a passcard? The passcard as well as
Sentri can be used in the ready lanes, but land travel,
getting an fmm with the Passcard and not wanting to
carry a Passport makes sense

I guess let me clarify.

SENTRI card is different than a passport card. That I know.
My question is, if I wanted a passport card, just to carry with me, instead of carrying my SENTRI, would the program allow me to get a passport card.

I don't think they will allow it.

The website states if you have a passport card already, you are not allowed to apply.

Your sentry card is not a Passport card......your sentry cards will work in the passport card lane but not the reverse...two different cards for two
different purposes...Although they overlap for the passport card lane ID purposes...I don't see any reason why you could not have both....

Mexico!! Where two can live as cheaply as one.....but it costs twice as much.....
