The yurts look fabulous! Thanks to UDO. That said, I am leaving a surfboard behind, just for this trip. I am really an ocean kind of guy.
Again, thanks to all Nomads that chimed in here.

Gr8, Keep in mind what your significant other thinks is romantic. Otherwise might be a disaster. Men are from Mars, so probably good idea to
leave the surfboard home.

Good idea! That way there'll be room for more fishing poles!

I know the answer to this. Married 40 yrs. No surfboard. No fishing gear. No books. No nothing. No side 4x4 trips. I'm old, but not stupid yet.

If you are an AAA member, do pick up their Baja map, it is very good for the main roads in Baja.
If you don't mind 48 miles of graded/ washboard dirt road... go south from Mexicali through San Felipe, Gonzaga Bay to Laguna Chapala on Hwy. 1. It is
way shorter and no cities of Tijuana or Tecate or Ensenada to negotiate through (or the farm traffic in San Quintin).
If you do not want 48 rattle filled miles, then head west to Tecate (take turnoff for 'Campo') and head south from there.
If you need to see the maps, let me know...
PS, if your own beach is romantic sounding... then just south of San Felipe is some of the best! (this one requires 4WD and camping if you want to
stay... Km. 26 is the access road):

Thank you. I have to stick to the pavement 'cus of the wife's back. Can't take her wheeling with me even.
Appreciate the directions.

we have had "romantic" couples here before and what they like is privacy...no nearby neighbours, ocean view with an awesome sunset at c-cktail hour, a
casita they can hang out in with nobody bugging them...lots of couples like the Sunset Casita because it's private and complete, you can make as much
noise as you like...ya never have to leave the house!!! It will be fun to meet some newbies and you can bet I'll stock the casita with some romantic
notions....hahahaha

As "newbies", this has been a wonderful experience guys. We are contacting Shari today.
I've been lurking on this forum for a long time looking for surf info. We grew up in CA, my wife in So. S.D. county, I go wheeling in Baja with a
bunch of guys from time to time. So we aren't newbies to Baja really
Anyway, thanks again for the suggestions and the well wishes.

I know lots of places to camp, but I need help finding a sort of romantic getaway. A tiny village, a couple of nice casitas for rent on or vey near
the beach, a little restaurant. I mean, a REALLY small place. If anybody knows of anywhere that fits this bill, please post up. It's important.
Thanks. |
Gonzaga Bay on the Sea of Cortez, about 100 miles south of San Felipe is a beautiful spot known for its great beaches and remote location. There are a
scattering of houses, a hotel and a couple of restaurants. The area actually consists of two separate bays.

Once you arrive, however, you’ll realize the trek was worth it. Sparkling, clear water, beautiful beaches, amazing sunsets and little peace and quiet
in Mexico far, far away from spring breakers and resorts. Gonzaga Bay still has the character of a sleepy little Mexican fishing town.

Old people are like the old cars, made of some tough stuff. May show a little rust, but good as gold on the inside.
