San Ysidro POE Advisory
SCHEDULED LANE REDIRECTIONS JANUARY 30 to FALL 2012 DUE TO SAN YSIDRO LAND PORT OF ENTRY (LPOE) CONSTRUCTION
What: Full Lane Redirections are scheduled in support of the San Ysidro LPOE construction
When: Starting early Monday, January 30, 2012 – Ending Fall 2012 (Continuous)
Where: Inspection lanes 17 through 24 located at the west side of the port
As travelers approach the port of entry from Mexico, they will be redirected to available booths to be processed into the United States. In addition,
16 extra inspection booths have been added to the remaining 16 lanes to ensure that CBP officials keep port operations and traffic moving smoothly.
With these extra inspection booths, CBP will have the same capacity to process traffic throughout the construction process as is normally available.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the U.S. General Services Administration, and the city of Tijuana continue working closely together and consulting
with traffic management specialists to ensure that traffic redirections are smooth, easy for travelers, and do not impact wait times at the port of
entry.
Travelers can get updated information about changing traffic patterns and border wait times by calling 619-690-8999 (San Ysidro border crossing) and
619-671-8999 (Otay Mesa border crossing.)

Dang, I was hoping they would have this all done by the time I came back down in June--- Bah Humbug!! Well, if they say the fall it means possible
spring of 2013 unless they have a construction fine per day if not completed. Ok, just have to deal with it and it is what it is,LOL. Take Care

On KPBS they said there would not any additional delays as they would double up the remaining lanes. Also they said upon completion border waits
would go from two hours to half an hour. Please don't shoot the messenger.....

That contract will have sizable Liquidated Damages (fines per day for delays beyond the original contract duration).

yeah, we've done well.
i'm just saying that with such focus being put on the safety aspect of each job that you'd think it would raise some eyebrows when a wooden scaffold
is overloaded until it falls onto the general public and closes a port of entry.

Thought I'd bump this to the top. I'd like to read other's non-sentri experiences now that they have started closing lanes to do the re-build.
They are claiming that going tandem in the remaining lanes will make up for the closed lanes but early reports indicate that's not true.
????

the guy i got was all cool asking about where i surfed and the fishing. the guy in the farther booth was a D I C K and was opening every door of every
vehicle, then the trunk, then checking documents. so it doesn't matter how many guys there are if the lowest common denominator is a rookie!

Yesterday (Friday) was a FOUR hour wait to cross into the USA at San Ysidro. We got in line at the Smart & Final at 11am and crossed at 3:15pm.
Tecate is looking like a better option until they get this worked out. The "double decker" inspection booths are supposed to make up for the closed
lanes, but it simply does not work out that way.

Woooosh, I feel your pain. I chose Otay yesterday due to the ongoing madness at SY. The ready lane was wound nearly 1 mile west, guesstimating a
2+hour wait.
Decided upon regular lanes. 3:13 entry. 5:13 greeting from the stone faced CBP to clear me, my vehicle and my possessions and keep the USA a safer
place last night.
Until two years ago, Friday afternoon was an EZ & quick crossing north. No more.

My wife's niece is having 125 people at her wedding at La Fonda in April. The guests who don't get shot and killed or kidnapped are in for a fabulous
experience on the return trip home, or not.

Pilot Pedestrian Ready Lane Coming to Otay Mesa
SAN DIEGO - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials will open a pilot pedestrian Ready Lane at the Otay Mesa port of entry on February 23.
Similar to the existing vehicle Ready Lanes, any traveler with an approved document that has Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology can use
the lane for a faster border crossing.
The pedestrian Ready Lane will operate from 4 a.m. until 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Documents
that may be used in the Ready Lane are: the U.S. passport card, Trusted Traveler cards (SENTRI/ FAST/Global Entry) and the newer versions of the legal
permanent resident and laser visa/border crossing cards issued after 2008. All travelers over 16 years of age must possess an RFID-enabled card to use
the lane.
"This pilot will allow us to test the best ways to leverage existing technology to shorten processing times for travelers crossing the border on
foot," said Chris Maston, director of Field Operations in San Diego. "At CBP, we are committed to continuing to find ways to make our border safer and
more efficient."
CBP is installing three new kiosks at the Otay Mesa border crossing for the pedestrian Ready Lane. Travelers eligible to use the pedestrian Ready Lane
will approach the facility from the left, in a separate line from general travelers with non-Ready Lane documents.

make sure all the guest leave time to apply for their passports. The problem with SENTRI is everyone riding with you must have one; for groups like
yours it won't help. Hopefully by April the construction work will have moved to another area of the POE.
Ready lanes longer than the regular lanes at Otay? That's not encouraging is it?
