Hughesnet and VSAT?
Anybody else who's on SatMex5 had problems with their Hughesnet for the past couple of weeks? Web pages won't load or it spins so long it never
connects and comes up with "Unable to connect to server" messages.
We changed connectors, checked cables, antenna alignment and modem stuff with no results. We're definitely not FAP'd because we can't connect enough
to have exceeded our bandwidth. The intermittent service makes it pretty much worthless. A couple of neighbors have reported the same symptoms with
their Hughes- just wondering how wide spread it is?
We contacted the Hughesnet dealer to upgrade to a Business level service plan which would mean we'd be switched to SatMex6 (and maybe Hughes doesn't
load that one up with so many customers?). But he recommended not switching right now because Hughes is having problems with SatMex6 satellite and his
"business plan" customers are reporting problems.
First Starband, and now Hughes... Currently researching vsat... $$$ yikes!
Anybody have vsat internet?

There are a few people here that have been having intermittent service the last month. I had been having problems for over a month, called India and
they were no help and asked to speak to an American and they refused. Finally I had to call our local tech, Mario, he checked out things and decided
that it was the modem. Ray, my friend from Dolphin Cove just gave me a new modem. And sure enough I'm back on. Mostly without interruptions. Good Luck
I know your frustrations.

Glad you're up and running Russ. Our equipment is only 5 months old but bajasatellite did a tune up and tweaked a couple of settings on our modem
although it hasn't seemed to make a difference.
I haven't heard good things about Hughes' tech support so I haven't attempted calling them on the satellite phone yet. Probably be $30-50 minimum for
the call, which would be worth it if it accomplishes something.

When they have serious storms in Hershey, Pennsylvania, the service will show some interruptions and problems. I hear lots of complaints about Hughes
but it still may be the best for those people who live out of the city.
I have friends who spent $2,000 hooking up and setting up a system with Telmex, and when they added another receiver dish in the area, it all went
down and no-one has been able to fix it as of yet.
So, it is better than dial up.

What are you referring to when you say "vsat"? In starband lingo vsat means "very small aperature terminal". Which basically means a residential sat
service. Are you looking into another service provider? The only one I know of is "wild blue" which uses spot beam technology and would not work where
you want to use it.

PS: The dish I got from you works great, I increased from a 7 EBno to an 11 EBno. No more rain fade, not that we get that much rain here.

Glad you're able to put the dish to good use Larry.
I didn't realize "vsat" was a generic term, sorry for the confusion. We're researching "commercial grade" satellite internet. Per the websites: "VSAT
systems use more powerful commercial equipment, and limit the number of subscribers per channel to ensure greater availability and stability."
They offer multiple service levels and tiers. You can pay more to increase your speed or increase your amount of data or both.
This one looks interesting and covers Mexico and Central america: Skycasters
Bajasatellite offers a VSAT service also and we're going to ask him more about it. http://www.bajasatellite.com/VSAT-satellite-internet-systems...
We don't need the ability to send and receive huge amounts data but we do need something more reliable. The service plans and equipment aren't cheap,
but we need reliability. The ability to use VOIP and maybe watch an online video clip would be a bonus.
We're still researching to learn more about it.

Just had a neighbor ask me if I knew of anyone that wanted a Hughes system. Free to a good home. So if anyone wants it I'll try to get and save it for
you. It is here in BoLA.
