US received over 1.5 Million Mexican Visa Applications in 2011

The U.S. Embassy in Mexico said today that this year will receive over 1.5 million applications for visas, of which one third will be captured at the
Consulate in this city (Monterrey, N.L.). 
  
 This was emphasized by the Minister for Consular Affairs of the U.S. embassy, John Brennan, after assessing the progress of the new
consular offices in Beijing, where he invested $267 million. 
  
 "In December 2011 the Consulate General in Monterrey was the world number one in the processing of visas and demand is increasing," he said. 
  
 He explained that "we anticipate that this year 2012 we will have about 500 000 applicants, about a third of the 1.5 million visa applicants in
Mexico." 
  
 He noted that over seven million Mexicans have some kind of visa to travel to America. 
  
 She noted that the new consulate that is built in this capital, which will become operational in late 2013, is among the 10 largest consular offices
worldwide. 
  
 For the next few years, he said, there are in the pipeline construction and analysis of more consulates in the cities of Mexico, without going into
further details. 
  
 On another issue, said to the security problem in this country, and support cooperation between the governments of Mexico and the United States will
remain strong this year. 
  
 "We want to continue and strengthen this cooperation to face and overcome challenges in security situations," he said. 
  
 He said that businessmen from the United States maintain their interest in investing in this country and have plans to roll out major projects in

The article says over 7 million Mexicans have a visa. That's about 7% of the population.
