Passports, Passport cards or drivers license ????

Anybody know if they're still letting people back across the border with just a California drivers license or maybe an expired passport?? I want to take a friend for lunch in T.J. who only has an expired passport or drivers lic. Don't want to get into any problems for me or the friend.

I walked back at TJ a couple weeks inside US
Customs were lines labeled, sentri, passport line,
Drivers license/birth cert and NO ID, you can cross
back with no ID what so ever, we all know what
Homeland Security says, but on the border there
is no enforcement, and they are not going to put
you in a room with a spotlight and ask you
who John Wayne is or the US Pres name

Last year crossing at San Ysidro with my who friend - who had only an expired passport - we were issued a "warning" and told next time we'd pay a fine. No idea what law/code the dude was citing, but that's what he said. I have heard they cannot legally keep you from crossing, but your life will probably be easier with current passport/passport card.

Expired passport is not much different from a current passport to the US Imm folks.

And since you are just hanging in TJ, no problema.

When folks are going way South, or spending considerable time SOB, the expired passport becomes a problem in that Mex Imm won't issue you a FMM without a current passport.
