Is this legal in Mexico?

zaplight

Just wondering. After reading the thread about off-roading near Mike's ranch, it might be useful in the event I run across an angry Gringo somewhere. So far the locals haven't given me much reason to be concerned but after reading that, I got a little worried. (joking)

But really - is this legal?

I wouldn't want to get shaken down at a reten with that thing......

It may be legal, but they're gonna tell you it isn't because they want one....

Just sayin'.....LOL

You have to get close enough to use it.

I cannot find a straight answer anywhere online. Its either:

1 - it's not "illegal", so it must be legal

2 - its only legal for police and/or military

3 - its legal, but tazers are NOT

or 4 - don't go to mexico.

All of which appear to come from "people who know".

I'm not looking for any preemptive measures. I want something my wife can use in case someone breaks into our house (its LOUD - would scare most house thieves in a heartbeat), or someone attacks her on a walk.

I happen live somewhere I fear much more than mexico, but if I DO buy it, I would want to know if she's allowed to carry it in Mex.

Bajamatic -

You'll be hard pressed to find a definitive answer...but as I understand it ANY tazing device requires a permit in Baja. Regardless, whomever you use that thing on had better be alone or all it's gonna do is pee off his buddies. :barf:

see??? Spoken by "someone who knows".

So, who do you know who has a "tazing device permit"?

And for the record, you will probably be the first person I taz. I'll need to be sure it works, and that's really the only way....

The person who would know should be chiming in by now.

My buddy Carl - an ex-pat Marine down near BOLA - used to carry one. He once got popped by local cops who shook him down (mordita!) for $50 and then took the darn tazer! I say a man's gotta protect himself, but I don't make the laws.

And as for tazing me...

".....if it's questionable.....don't do it" applies well in Mexico.

Darn, I thought that was the point of moving down here, so we could do questionable things we'd never do back home.

the thing is, is if you need to use it you will up close and personal with the tweeker when you zap the crap out of him. if you're walking downtown ensenada it might draw some attention. if you're out in the sticks who's gonna know?
