Whatever happend to Emilia?
There was a young girl who made us margaritas along the river at Pancho Villa's in Mulege back in 2007. She wanted to become a doctor. There was a
big thread about it and donations were made. I cannot remember her name but I have a photo of her from 2007. Does anyone know whatever happend to
her quest to become a Doctor?

Would this be the same girl who had donations solicited for Med School? If so, I seem to remember the donations covered her first and then second year
in Med school. She was very grateful for the help and promised progress reports and seemed committed to returning to Mulege to serve the local
residents.Anyone heard anything?

Found the update:
The semester is over now and I have good news for you. I was first in my class and here are my grades.
INVESTIGACION CUALITATIVA EN SALUD. 95 - NOVENTA Y CINCO
CRECIMIENTO Y DESARROLLO 100 - CIEN
GENETICA HUMANA 90 - NOVENTA
PATOLOGIA . 83 - OCHENTA Y TRES
NUTRICION . 100 - CIEN
FISIOPATOLOGIA 90 - NOVENTA
FARMACOLOGIA 95 - NOVENTA Y CINCO
I'm home right now and the winter feel especially cold. Mulege is just as beautiful as always. I missed my family and friends so it is so good to be
back.
I have been reading extra physiology during my vacation because I want to be a teacher next semester for the physiology lab. I'm thinking this will
be a great experience and it will be a great reminder of the basics as I move up. The theoretical part of medical school consists of an 8 semester
program and I have just passed to the 4th which means that I'm almost half way through medical school now until the internship and a year of community
service. I am very lucky because not many students want to do their community service in Mulege and I probably get to pick it because of my excellent
grades. It seems as if it will be possible and I am really looking forward to that.
On the 9th of January I will take an exam and if I pass I will be in class from the 10th until the 20th of January that allows me to teach the
physiology lab. I'll start the 4th semester on the 8th of February. Vacation will be over soon but I am very happy to be able to help other
students, learn more, and have a practical job that helps with the tuition.
This semester was hard but I did my best and I loved it!

Guadalajara Med School...
Excellent school....bilingual from what I have heard...alot of Americans go there. Extremely expensive....over $20,000 a year American dollars (that

Thanks Comitan for the update information on Emilia! I don't know what made me think of her today, but I thought at the time it was a fantastic story
about one really motivated young woman! I hope to be able to still keep track of her fantastic progress.
By the way, those pineapple margies she made us over 5 years ago were excellent!

What follows is an email Emi sent to me recently. She is top of her class, teaching, being published, and becoming quite the success. Thanks to her
dedication and your donations Mexico is going to have one fine doctor to its credit very soon.
Thanks again for her donations. She is attending school primarily on scholarships for great grades and donations from Nomads. The Mulege Fishing
Tournament has been a great sponsor and when we go to raise her third year expenses around June I bet it will be un gran exito!

Hey hi Maxx, how are you? I have been thinking about you a lot, I have been missing home too.
How is everything down there?
School is very well bu it has been exahusting, a lot to do,
I came home and the next day I had the exam and I got accepted in the program so the next day I had to go and start one of what I think is the
harddest classes ever, we worked so much, all the 20 that the accepted for the class, we were loosing our minds over it, maybe because most of the
thing I didnt know I haven taken the classes yet, and because of the long hours we were there from 8 am to 9 or 10 pm and then got home and had a lot
of homework, and it was not easy material, but come on, nobody say it would be easy right!? And I wouldnt wan it if it were, so I spent too weeks
working my butt off, but it payed off and now Im officialy an instructor, Im teaching, tuesday I will meet my first group and then thrusday the other
one, I will be teaching 2 and it will be physiology, Im really looking forward to it, and then I doing something really exiting too, I started to
write a chapter in a physiology book and one in the physiopathology one, it is about male reproductive system, and the cool part is that even tho it
will be a school book it has its ISBN, so it gives me a lot of credit, it is actually writing a medical book!! In 4th semester of medicine!!! Im
really exited about it!
I m also working in the project of a clinical trail for my experimental desing class, it will only be writen, I dont think I will actually work with
patiens ( that I cant yet) but is a great start for later in my practice, so all that plus my required classes, it is a lot but Im pulling it off and
working hard...
Well, I will really be thankfull if they could keep supporting me, I wish I could work to pay for my studies and my other expenses, but to be honest,
if I did I wouldnt be able to do all the great things Im doing, I will even have problems doing what any ordinary med student does, because it is a
lot, so if they are wiling to help it will do so much good, I honestly need the help, and thank you for leting me know, and thank you for helping
me...
i miss home, can you update me some, he he if you have time of course, and if you want.. How is the diet going? And the rolling? How is you
cholesterol's level doing? ( is that the way you ask )

To be clear - not soliciting donations just now because the last round paid for her whole year with a little money leftover to pay for specialty
books. The next appeal will probably be in June when she can budget for her third year of school.

wow, maxx....we're just thrilled to know her and her family.....i remember the first time i went to panchos we went (upstairs), to eat and were
impressed with the structural features of the restaurant....my three buddies and i sat in a "booth" and emi waited on us...my side of the booth was
spacious but it needed to be as emi's little brother was taking a siesta on it....we had our c-cktails and enjoyed our dinner with emi's little
brother snuggled up to my thigh, oblivious to our having a wonderful time just 10 inches above him...never forget it.....she waited on us then and was
around 12 i think...still....a notch above everyone.

Emilia has probably always been an outstanding human being, and Mulege is so fortunate to have her as one of our own.
When she does her internship here, I'm in line to be her first patient.

The Mexican government does not allow interns do independent consultations, its always under the observation of another doctor but the following year,
