Could that have been me? I'm always hoping for good news about the road from Rancho Viejo to Comondu. Looks like I'll be going the long way again
when we take wine bottles over in March.
Some really great pictures on your link! Maybe we should just get bikes

Did you notice the District 36 sticker in the photo link?
If your not associated with it, it will mean nothing to you. For me
it was mucho grande.

The road west from Hwy. 1 is paved now and at last report was within 5 miles of San Javier.

Bikes???? Really??? With the number of wine bottles that go up there? I think the long way around was your better idea!

Well, maybe a small trailer on one of the bikes?

Read in the guidebook that the Comondús were "quaint colonial villages" and the road was okay. Ha! Here's a video we made of the "road." It's a 50
mile creekbed of boulders.

I don't remember a section that wasn't rough. Very rough! And forgot to mention that the charm of the villages was lost on us. I don't see a reason to
go back. I love San Javier but don't think we'll ever be back to either Comondú.

If you are interested... see the trip report by Shari on San Jose Comondu... excellent story and photos. Note, that a paved road from the south is
being built into the Comondus, and isn't far away. The north road (to which the photos in the opening post show), the east road (to San Javier,
Loreto), and the west road (northwest) to San Isidro and La Purisima are best done in a true 'Baja Prep'd Rig'!
The north road was the main Baja 'highway' before the paving of Mexico 1 (which by-passed Comondu) through Loreto, around 1971.
