MRI in Tijuana?

I have been asked to find out if MRIs are available at
Tijuana's hospitals or imagining labs. If so, what is the procedure? Can anyone request one and leave with the results (granted they must know exactly what they need and why)...or must they see a Mexican Dr.? How do the costs and quality compare?

Hi , Jeans

The answer to your questions are: Yes, Yes and Yes.

I had a "sleeping" stroke in 2007. It took me a while to figure out why my vision had gone so bad, some said glaucoma, some said something else.

My Tijuana ophthalmologist referred to me to a neurologist at the Angeles hospital and he sent me to an MRI clinic a few blocks away.

The equipment was state-of-the-art and my brain scan was given to me with a doctor's analysis on exit. It cost about $400.

The professionalism and the caring treatment I received was world class.

Here is a link to the English language page for the Angeles hospital: http://www.medicaltourismco.com/mexico-hospitals/hospital-an...

Thank you Gypsy Jan, Just what I wanted to hear. Do you remember the name of the neurologist, by any chance?

Hi, Jeans

Dr. Clemente Zuniga

664 635 1838 (This is a Tijuana phone number, so you need to use the country code 52 if calling from the U.S.)

Hi DavidE

I would think so.

Click on the link I posted above for Angeles Hospital and there is a form where you can submit your questions.

Side note: My insurer required a U.S. doctor's medical report, so I took my MRI film to a U.S. neurologist and she wrote it up.

In short, the Mexican pictures were acceptable, but a Mexican doctor's analysis was not.

Hi Jan,
Does your Ophtalmologist only see adult patients or can he/she see children as well? My son went from being able to see very well to very poor vision almost overnight. His next appointment is one month from now and then he might need to be seen by a neurologist. Just looking at some options due to an extremely high deductible in CA.
Muchas gracias Jan!

Hi angels4

Yes I believe that they treat children. Every time I have visited, the waiting room is overflowing with families and kids.

Actually, My step-dad passed away last month. Mom is fine, insists on staying alone against all our advice. She is convinced (brainwashed by 24/7 US news radio) that the US is much more dangerous than where she's lived for 25 years.

Don't get me started....:fire:

Moms are usually right! I am glad she is okay...

I always thought she was super cool... tell her 'hello' from me (the guy that gave her that campaign button at PalmAzul Restaurant, in 2004)!:D

Thank you Jan. I will keep it as an open option for my little man. He gets out of one health trouble and walks right into another one. And with cost of insurance skyrocketing here in the states I am having to consider all my options for medical treatment. Have a great weekend!

Thank you, ELINVESTIG8R. He was in poor health... in & out of the hospital for months. Celia Diaz at Binational Emergency Medical Care Commitee arranged transport to the states in the middle of the night. (Cruz Roja and then transfer to a US ambulance) He died a few days later. Just wore out.

No doubt he would have gotten more care living near a VA hospital and my sister (his daughter) but it was their decision to stay in Mexico.

Like I said...Don't get me started....:fire:
