Owners only? What if the carry Gamakatsus instead? Or Hayabusas?
Japanese hooks are the best. But, unfortunately, I dont do as much live bait fishing as I used to. That's where the Nipponese mfgrs used to shine.
Used to love flylining a pinhead 'chovie with an Owner or Gamakatsu with the live bait ring. Owner even made some light wire hooks with a ring, made
for small baits. They were incredibly strong for their wire gauge. When the fleet only had pinheads (not the deckhands!) for bait and you were fishing
for albies that only wanted the pinheads, these were the live bait hooks that allowed 'chovies to swim naturally when hooked thru the nose.
Living down here, I do miss fishing for albies at the Cross or the Mushroom Bank. Great memories.

the Mulege waters.
The front counter is filled with tackle that works for this area.
Like whistler says..Support your local economy.

In this photo a cute customer is asking Miguel what lure to use for pompano?
He advises.."Try waving your bikini."

I think that is my friend "T" who lives along the river in Mulege! She is a very sweet person! Her and her husband Bob live there during the cooler
months. And, Bob loves to fish! |
Opps...must be another look-a-like in Mulege, Bob. That brunette is wife #1, a Debby, who is indeed a very
sweet "10". I never did call her "T"?...but I may be wrong, as I am so often in matters concerning the fairer sex.
And...this co-pilot catches fish..Pompano AND this nice 28lb cabrilla near Sta. Inez islands.

Caught on a No. 9 metal-lipped Rapala bought from SQC tackle store..downtown San Diego near India St...a long time ago.
I do what the voices in my tackle box tell me.

Like most of us fishermen, I am always looking for some great deals on rods, reels, and tackle. In my case, I am
coming cross-country from way the hell-and-gone Up North and can take advantage of several tackle shops along the way.
But..it seems that San Diego is the most handy and logical place to buy saltwater tackle supplies for Baja Sur fishing...both Sea of Cortez and
Pacific sides. (90% of my fishing in on the Cortez side.) I'm hoping many nomads will have other recommendations on tackle shops in San Diego...or
wherever it's handy for YOU.

i rarely buy much in brick/mortar stores. cheaper on line, and no sales taxes. only shop brick/mortar stores to try on clothing for size (then buy
online), or daily/weekly needs like groceries, or bulky items like construction supplies or furniture.

You aren't helping your neighbors with your shopping online. Sometimes it's better to support the local economy even if it costs a bit more, and when
you say that you try on clothes to find the correct size to order online you are just being cheap.

Yes, great stores.
Often stopped at Bob's on Rosecrans St, San Diego...where I bought this nice model as a gift to a Baja amigo and neighbor.
