Did this trip die a natural death or is there any interest out there?

I was watching the thread to see how it eventually planned out. I was kinda interested in the hike, but thought the agenda was a little aggressive - lots of uphill at the beginning. But I would love to do the hike - share a ride to keep expenses down. I have a couple backpacks I could lend. If you slow it down just a tad, I'd be interested.

I think El Comadante Loco is pushing it back to a later date. Maybe when the weather is a little warmer, especially at night. I too want to do it.

Yes, gets cold at night and in the morning, but it warms up fast - by 10:00 a.m., you're shedding layers. then you need more water, sweat more. If you have a good bag, proper layering, gloves and hat, you'll stay comfortable when it's cold, and just right during the day. It will already be warmer than January.

If it comes together with a date certain, and I don't already have travel plans, I'd like to. I suppose I could do it from Gonzaga to the mission and back by myself - that would be fun enough - exploring along the way - plenty of water. If somebody wants to do that with me, let's discuss. Probably a route long used by indigenous - who knows what there is to find en route.

I got a call from a lady asking me if woman ever get invited to do these kind of Nomad events... Well, as far as most of us are concerned the invite goes to all Nomads (which are men and women...). Wilderone (Cindi) is a woman and she is always ready for adventure we have read here!

So, (more) Nomad females... give it a shot and go for a hike!

My stepson and I hiked from Sant Inez to the Mission last March-late march. It was cold at night but HOT during the day. My stepson and I talked about it and came to the conclusion the best time to hike the area is late Feb-early March depending!

Did you hike to the mission in 1 day and spend the night and hike out the next day or stay another day or so to explore the area then hike out?

Appoint a leader, plan well, follow the plan, follow the leader. Sat radio, Spot, a few hand held radios, preferably VHF 5 watt handheld. You all should folllow a road, IFR travel. Preestablish meeting places with support, communicate with support. Talk about the what ifs? Make what if plans. Follow your plans. It will take longer than 3 days to make the coast.

Always wanted to do the coast to coast hike and was always planning to use el Arroya de la Bocana as the route west from Sant Ines. But that requires prerunning, stashing water, etc. Life gets in the way and the ocean and surf always beckon. I'm getting fat and lazy.

Good luck if you try it!

Since you did it (~8 years ago), how much time should they allow to hike from Gonzaga to the mission, on El Camino Real? I think I recall about 6 hours if they start from the end of the road near the canyon mouth...?

(ps you already konw how impressed I was with the web site you made... and bummed when you took it down  )

OK, so it is almost April... and I just read ECL is going to Africa in a couple of months... So, it seems the walk across Baja has been shelved (until next year?)?
