July Wine Trip, where to stay?

The wife wants to do the wine tour during the end of July for her birthday.
We are coming from Phoenix and crossing at Los Algedones and taking hwy 2 over to Tecate and down to the Gudelupe Valley and then staying in Ensenada for a few nights.

Any suggestions?

Can you tell me about your trip to the wine country and what you recommend and what you don't?

Ensenada Wine Festival

Usually starts around August 5th. Here is a link to last years schedule of events:

https://secure.bajabound.com/events/vendimiaschedule.php

The 2012 schedule possibly will be out in May.

Suggest a few nights in the heart of the Guadalupe Valley at the Malagon Winery and B&B :

So how about if we stay in Ensenada?
She loves the ocean and wants to stay at least one night on the ocean?

Thanks

Try staying at Club Marena just north of Puerto Nuevo. It's right on the ocean and gives you an upscale experience. A google search to book it. I visited the L.A. Cetto winery and another one close by - good times. The good thing about staying at Club Marena is the lobster nearby at P. Nuevo and also Ollie's Pizza just down the road.

Las Rosas is really nice. It is pricey but not too bad and worth it for a night, imo. The first 3 photos are from our room and the last is looking south towards Ensenada. This was in 2004 and the mid week price was $75 a night. I just went to the website and it looks like the mid week in the nicer single room is $116.48 for 2 people. The weekend price is $170.24.

For "on the ocean" in northern Baja, my preference is Poco Cielo at km 58, 30 minutes north of Ensenada in La Mision.

The 3 hotels there, La Fonda, Poco Cielo and Hotel La Mision all seem to offer competitive rates and the same terrific view of dolphins surfing. Great walking beach below.

Are they 5 star resorts? No and that's why I like them. Yes, I'm a single guy and yes, I have tested Poco Cielo with a picky female guest.

Poco Cielo offers better food & service, IMHO. Would love to hear reviews on Hotel La Mision, as they often have music on weekends.

Hope to hear your trip report on your adventures. cheers

Las Rosas

Also gets my vote.

Great place if you are in Ensenada, then wow her with dinner at Sano's
