Another Good Friday in Baja.

..Same question...different year.

Perhaps some different input?

The following are some facts I personally did not know, but am glad I researched.

Many people in different countries celebrate the anniversary of Jesus Christ’s crucifixion and death on the Friday before Easter Sunday. This is an observance that involves people fasting and praying.

Many church services are held in the afternoon, usually around noon or midday to 3pm, to remember the hours when Jesus hung on the cross.

Many churches also observe the day by re-enacting the procession of the cross as in the ritual of the Stations of the Cross, which depicts the final hours of Jesus’ life. Processions are held in many countries such as India, Italy, Mata, the Philippines, and Spain.

Kites that are often handmade are flown in Bermuda on Good Friday to symbolize the cross that Jesus died on, as well as his ascension into heaven. This custom dates back to the 19th century.

Churches in countries, such as Belgium and Mexico, are draped in black on Good Friday in memory of Jesus’ suffering on the cross.

The day is solemn and a general air of sadness is felt in many towns and villages. Many Christians in Poland fast on dry bread and roasted potatoes.

Egg decorating is also part of the Easter preparations in Poland and many other countries.

Happy Good Friday, Happy Easter Holiday!

I'm spending this weekend to work on my Adventurewagen, to ready it for the next upcoming Baja trip.

Today, I did install this nifty Top Shelf, a supported net for the softer things in life.

The End is Near

It appears that a lot of Nomads have given up posting for Lent (only 9 NEW posts today vs 171.67 average). Things should improve after Easter.:bounce::bounce:

I have looked over the comments and replies and realize a trip to Ana's or the Jungle will greatly help to decode those messages.

So you just gave Sharkey's up for Lent? I heard a nasty rumor you had knocked up the c-cktail waitress and had to wait to go back until she left town in shame. :)

Rosarito is busy. Great to see. Lot's of local Mexican families in Rosarito centro Norte flying tarps, playing with their kids and grilling food. 70 degrees with a 5mph on-shore breeze- so it's not warm and most every one is wrapped in something to say warm. We have a couple of nice big families camped out in front for the weekend. Elotes carts, churros carts, candy carts, cotton candy, horse rentals- all right here. This is why we protect the beach and this is who we do it for. The real people. Happy Easter all.

Counted (91) cars, and (54) trucks westbound between Guerrero Negro and Vizcaino @ 11:30 - 12:30 Looked like I-5. Lots and lots of freshly discarded Tecate botes. Can't say how many were eastbound, but several perhaps 8+ passed me and I was doing 70.

Found a BanComer ATM next to the gasolinera on the left side going into town. Machine display had a cardboard sign taped across it with "FUERA de SERVICIO". Mexican lady passerby laughed and said the locals do that on holidays to keep the machine from being cleaned out. It functioned perfectly.

Very little is open on Viernes Santo. G.N. and Vizcaino looked like ghost towns. Malarrimo restaurant had only Mexican guests. La Ballena marcado looked like army ants had marched through an hour before.

I try and remember regardless of fact or fiction about other things a poor soul, by all accounts one superb human being was hung from a cross this date for trying to express his beliefs. Even the Hindus acknowledge his wanderings and charisma. His life and his teachings seems to be vastly different from what organized religion pontificates today. For as long as I can remember if I could travel back in time he is the one person whom I would wish to meet. Funny -- I am not "religious"; I guess I respect my image of him more than I do of most other "leaders" I have read about.

DavidE, i'm with you, but....

Dear god, hope you get the letter and...
I pray you can make it better down here
I don't mean a big reduction in the price of beer
But all the people that you made in your image
See them starving in the street
'Cause they don't get enough to eat from god
I can't believe in you

Dear god, sorry to disturb you but...
I feel that I should be heard loud and clear
We all need a big reduction in amount of tears
And all the people that you made in your image
See them fighting in the street
'Cause they can't make opinions meet about god
I can't believe in you

Did you make disease and the diamond blue?
Did you make mankind after we made you?
And the devil too!

Dear god don't know if you noticed but...
Your name is on a lot of quotes in this book
And us crazy humans wrote it, you should take a look
And all the people that you made in your image
still believing that junk is true
Well I know it ain't, and so do you
Dear god
I can't believe in
I don't believe

I won't believe in heaven or hell
No saints, no sinners, no devil as well
No pearly gates, no thorny crown
You're always letting us humans down
The wars you bring, the babes you drown
Those lost at sea and never found
And it's the same the whole world 'round
The hurt I see helps to compound
That father, son and holy ghost
Is just somebody's unholy hoax
And if you're up there you'll perceive
That my heart's here upon my sleeve
If there's one thing I don't believe in

It's you
Dear god :saint:

God, made us in his image. I also believe that he decided "If they're not smart enough to figure things out for themselves, then screw 'em, I'll start over yet again. Sooner or later I'll get it right".

Well, I was born a WASP in the heart of the Bible Belt. Sometime around my 12th birthday, give or take a couple of years, I began to change the upper case P to lower case p, and finally dropped the letter entirely. I couldn't do anything about the WAS part.

After I retired, though, I joined the Church of the Latter Day Fly-tiers, so I'll probably spend a bit of time over this weekend tying a few midge patterns in anticipation of attracting some hungry trout later this spring.

During the fall as part of my decision to take the ecumenical approach to an individual's religious preference, I enjoy the congregations of upland game birds and flocks of water fowl and join the Disciples of the Side-by-side Bangers. So, after I have a few flies tied, I might re-load a few 20-bore shells and get a head start for fall.

In any case, we avoid the highways and byways on this weekend and any forum threads that involve religion, politics, or tire preferences.

This is THE BIG WEEKEND for Mexicans to go camping here in La Paz. It can often be hard to find stuff related to that type of an activity during these days since they've all been bought by locals going to the beach.

La Paz will seem almost deserted this weekend since so many people are outside of the city. It's a good time for thieves--we had the "honor" of helping catch one last night as a couple of people were stealing the wiring of the building behind our place at about 2 a.m.

There most certainly is but one side to every story: the TRUTH. Variations of it are nothing but lies.
