Stay in TJ. Just follow the free route to Ensenada outside of the deep downtown area. Choose your hotel. TAKE A PAIR OF RUBBER DOOR STOP WEDGES. Check
the room before paying (the custom). Check all windows including bathroom for faulty catches even though they appear to have rock solid
jealous-husband's bars fitted to the outside wall. NO REAR DOORS. NO ADJOINING ROOM DOOR.
The rubber door stop wedges absolutely prevent a door from being opened. It would have to be demolished by a battering ram. If there is a wide gap at
the bottom, stack the wedges one atop another. If three wedges are needed find another room.
I would not take a nearly new 4X4 and stay in TJ. Same for an SUV.
Hope this helps

It's nice. I stayed there once. I wouldn't call it inexpensive but it is a good location for sure. There's a really good restaurant across the street
too. In fact there's quite a few good ones near there.

Hola 1Bajalover...
Here is a fairly good list of campgrounds near the border in San Diego County. Good luck with them ..and the dentist!
I will be up there myself in a few weeks...RVing & Camping. Finest Kind of Fun.

Stay in the US - no breakfast served in Mexico before 9 AM
Along Calle Primera - San Ysidro, CA - you have some national chain motels near a Denny's which is open 24 hrs. Finding Breakfast in the early
morning in Tijuana is impossible. In December, my Wife and I made a visit to Downtown Tijuana for some dental work.
We stayed in Tijuana at Villas de Santiago Inn - $30/night
r/t to Downtown Tijuana - $17!
one way to Villas de Santiago Inn - $7
return to US border - $10
Scout out a parking lot the day before - At Camiones Way and Camino de la Plaza - San Ysidro, you can park for $7 per day (pick up vehicle next
morning before 10 a.m. to avoid paying 2nd day).
Do yourself a favor and walk across the border. In San Ysidro, you can even find a Rickshaw Boy to pedal you to the sidewalk at the International
border - You'll pay less than hiring a Taxi.
My favorite cheap place to stay is the Knights Inn. Next door to Instant Mexico Insurance.
Knights Inn
Next is Motel 6 - San Ysidro - Close to Denny's, but with noisier people that fill the motel late and night, and slam doors early the next morning
making it tough to get a good nights sleep - plus, HORRIBLE cable TV.
Motel 6 San Ysidro San Diego
160 E Calle Primera, San Ysidro, CA 92173

Eat better Tortas than in Tijuana at Tortas Y Mas
730 H Street, Chula Vista, CA
(619) 422-1419 · tortasymas.com
It is across the street from the H Street Bus and Train station off I-5. These Tortas are the best I have tasted, using great ingredients.
Have fun on your dentistry vacation!

you know...
be aware...if you stay in a motel at the border you are in a DANGEROUS place...
just because you are north of the border it isnt all great...and at night it ALL changes
the rv parks NOB are expensive too
a few bucks...geezz...you cant take it with you...and ...crossing the border back and forth after the dentist isnt going to be fun
embrace your new homeland 1bajalover...you are moving here

Hotel Lucerna 99 Dollars US per weeknight one person according to their website. I am sure it is quite nice. 2 root canals plus 4 fillings took me
three days. Travel time, fuel to the border and back 3 nights 99 per, six hundred dollars perhaps?

there is a nice place in the sports arena / point loma area of san diego with a really reasonable hotel that is near Home Depot and
anglerschoicetackle.com and squidco and In and Out Burger and tons of other stores/restaurants. As long as it is not rush hour, it only takes a about
20 min max to reach the border.
