Coconuts,Cheese and Mangoes ?(Mulege)

When is the harvest season for these fruits in the Mulege area ? Also can anyone recommend a place in the Mulege/Santa Rosalita/San Isidro area that specializes in chivo bbq and cheese ?

I think the Gouda trees come into fruit in late August, not sure about the mozzarella.

mango is in season now and they are oh so so soooooooooooooooo good this year

I think cheese is made all year round and any supermarket you go into should have some ... the other option is to go to any rancho and ask them ...

coconuts - I have no idea. don't even remember seeing any here in la bocana. any one have them in their local supermarket ????

Come visit La Bocana

Mangos from the Mulege area are ripe in July, August and Sept.

There aren't many coconut trees around Mulege. Lots of date palms, tho'.

Many ranches do not make Goat Cheese in the hot months - due to bacterias.

What you find = year round in the stores is generally trucked in from outside the area. Mexico is big on trucking produce hither and yon.

And it's all generally pretty fresh.

Mangos are in the markets, now, at a good price. Cheese de chivo is sold at the mini super by the school and a new vendor delivers along the river road on Saturdays for only 60 pesos /kilo ! Hardly ever see cocos here, but yesterday there was a pick up truck vendor just north of the arch on the highway.
So, all available now. Good time to be here!

So, exactly how many Chivos does one have to milk to make queso de chivo. I'll bet it is very rare.

Up in the area around San Jose De Magdelena, they make an excellent Queso de Chiva which is much more popular and sells much better.
