could that be a toro (jack crevalle??). And yes, mine was a garibaldi. You even got the location right, Anacapa Island.

Great lookin' walleyes Pompano
I think the best eating fish I have ever tasted. Yes I have numerous scars on my tongue from trips to the lakes in Northern Minnesota.

Muchas gracias Bruce
.....it's a garibaldi, the California State Fish! Really. Appreciate the compliment. They are very common in CA waters and I've been photographing
them for years, this is my favorite image.

Looks like a trumpet fish. Ive caught a bunch of them down there but none that big.
Work is just something I do to keep me buzy between baja trips!

Agree with bajabum
.....I think that's a very large trumpet fish. As big as some of the needlefish (agujon) I have caught but the shape of the mouth gives it away.

Pompano,
Boy do those Pike and Walleye photos bring back memories...
Used to fish Boundary Waters in the late 60's and early 70's.
Any chance you knew of an old man named Charlie and his son that ran the Voyageur outfitters from an island in the middle of one of the lakes. I wish
I could find the photo of their 30' long viking canoe ! Long time ago...before the big fire. Man was the fishing awsome back then !
