FM3 to FM2
Had no idea you needed $2000.00/ Person in income to qualify for FM2 you need $4000.00 in income to qualify for (2) People.
All I know is people must have a lot more income than I thought? as a lot of people have or will get an FM2, so this will be difficult any ideas?

it is 400 times the minimum wage in Mexico City so it fluctuates constantly....but it hasn't been double for married couples. when did that
requirement change?

If it is the same as fm3 it is. You will need to take a bank statement. We pumped up one of our accounts for that month and then moved stuff back to
where we wanted it after we gave them the statement. Then again of course the rules change quite often so it could be different now.

I applied for my FM2 last year. I had to show a bank statement that I had some assets in the bank - it was not a hard number. It was not a big deal,
but then again, I paid a Mexican expediter to process the form. He is an immigration official by day and an expediter by night. Things sure go
easier that way!

I opened up an account in Baja several years ago with $500 and have never used it. It's my emergency stash fund. Every year for my renewal I get 3
months bank statements and it has always worked, an equivalent of $500 which has shown around 6,200 pesos as of a couple of months ago.

If you are registering your wife as a dependent (which is cheaper to do than as an individual ) your bank statements only have to show $3000/month
income under the current rules

As of this spring you could use your USA bank statements if you wanted to. Again, things change very fast in Mexico. I would get someone to help
you. They are fairly common (expediter) and can save much time and running around,.

IMHO, Unless you stay in Mexico for longer than 6 months at a time, why
would you want an FM2?
Even the FM3 is becoming a thing of the past with some gringos. To my knowlege, you don't need an FM3 to own or sell your owned/leased property in
Baja.
Lots of snow bird gringos I know around San Felipe are now dumping their FM3s and just getting 6 Month Tourist Visas. Much cheaper, just a little more
work with having to check in and out at the border.
But then this is Mexico, things change daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, or even all of the above.

I just asked the person in Ensenada that does mine all the question asked here and all i got was a DUNNNNNNNNO
Makes one feel stupid doest it 
I do know in my case they were more interested in the monthly deposits(income) than they were the total in account

The rate of saving required is generally demonstrated 3 months of savings to cover cost of living expenses, justifying your ability to live without
working, because unlike in the USA, Mexico doesn't allow foreigners to do any work for pay whatsoever without permission to work.
Estimated:
The base rate is about 400 x minimum daily wage or about $13,780.00 pesos per month for the applicant and $20,760 for a married couple. You could show
a rolling balance meeting this requirement or a large one month balance.
The amount required per visa holder is based on the minimum mexican daily wage which about 60 pesos depending on the economy and exchange.
The amount is reduced %50 if you own your own home.
The spouse only requires %50 of the required amount.

IMMIGRATION CHANGES
IMMIGRATION DEPARTMENT HAS REDEFINED
WHAT WILL BE ACCEPTABLE TO COMPLY WITH
THE BANK STATEMENT SUBMITTAL
The Mexican immigration department will now require three consecutive months of bank statements.
The last statement can be no earlier that 15 days prior to your “fm” card renewal date.
All three months of bank statements must show a deposit with a minimum balance that is required for your “fm”.
In addition all three statements will need to be translated into Spanish.
No longer does the ending balance count it must show deposit for each month for the required amount.
Example: an fm3 for one person needs 1,300.00 dollars
to be deposited into their account for each of the three bank statement months.
I received verification of this from the lady who does out FM-3's just yesterday. Lupita Mora Foudy This also came first from Lolita (at the circle in
SF)who also does this kind of work.

One would certainly be allowed to have a balance exceeding the three month requirement. Not every retiree is still earning money, some may live off of
savings.
Required translation of numbers would also be considered absurd.
The office's primary function is to gain money through processed visas, not make-up complex methods to deny them.

Just word of mouth from people who have attended meetings and workshops with Immigration officials and other FM gurus in the past year or so.

It has nothing to do with easy, or smart, has to do with real world situation.
I believe you may be right meme..the old way was to translate the (3) Months Statements into Spanish, and then they stopped but maybe back to doing it
again..you are correct on all the other issues but you need for a FM3 now $1500/ person and a FM2 $2000.00 per person and show the Monthly deposits
not the Month end balance...OH WELL THIS WILL BE GOOD FOR PEOPLE APPLYING NOW!
They want to see the deposits on a monthly basis on the Statement. CHANGES....CHANGES....CHANGES.

fishingmako - it seems to me that every office here in Baja operated just a tad differently, so which office are you dealing with ?
If only to eventually get a Mexican passport and never have to deal with any of this again, it is worth it to get the FM2. IM humble O.
