Tijuana airport - san diego long term parking?
It's that time of year again - looking for an alternative to the Volaris Shuttle -we used to park at my sister's in San Diego and she'd drive us to
the greyhound, but she's moved.
Anyone know of safe, inexpensive parking convenient to the border, trolley or the bus? We'd like to drive and leave a car for at least two weeks, but
when the cost of that starts getting in the high humbers, flying Volaris then becomes questionable when it offsets flying out of LAX (sad but true)-
Looked into the train out of Union Station but the roundtrip on that adds up when you have several in your family.
Your educated thoughts on the matter are always appreciated here!

You might think about parking near the marina..safe and I cant say about the RULES around there. but a call to the harbor master and going to the
radio (vhf) should make clear of any hurdles and answers !!

You might want to try Delta Truck Parking . They're in Otay and I think the charge is $7 or $8 a day. They offer shuttle service to the Tijuana airport.
In the interest of full disclosure, I have not parked there, mostly because I have friends in Chula Vista that will let me park at their house and the
ITT shuttle picks us up there. We also usually use the Otay border crossing because it's a lot closer to the airport than San Ysidro.
For day trips to Tijuana I usually park at The border station parking lot just off the I-5 and Camino de la Plaza , it's only $8/day and there is someone on site 24/7.
The parking lot at the Old Town transit center in San Diego is a patrolled lot and they'll tow you if they think you're trying to long term park
there. There are several trolley stops with fairly large parking lots that are not posted for no overnight parking, but I strongly suspect if your car
was there more than 2 or 3 nights, it would be towed. More and more streets in San Diego are posted with some sort of parking restriction that finding
no cost parking close to public transit is going to be a challenge, short of having friends locally that will let you park at their house.

We did the Delta Truck Parking (Kalypso Link above) a couple of months ago and it was the best! It was $7 a day, you park your car right next to the
office/24hour guard, and in seconds your being shuttled to the otay boarder. A short walk across the boarder and the head honcho of the best cab guys
around greet you by name! On the drive to the boarder the Delta guy calls ahead and gives them your name and you also get a discount ($10 for the ride
to the airport...tip good!). less than 10 minutes later your at the airport!
When you return...walk through the boarder and call Delta...in 10 minutes their there to bring you back to your car. Will never do it any different
from now on!

This might take a few hours more, take a cab to the L.A. Station, ride the AMTRAC L.A. to San Diego's Sante Fe Station, then the trolly to the
boarder and a cab to T.J. Airport. This will work any day of the week = no parking.

Thanks for the suggestions, the truck parking sounds like the ticket but again, adds on to the cost of the "bargain" out of flying volaris out of TJ
when you are gone for several weeks - I remember the days of flying LAX to La Paz for $200 roundtrip not that long ago - times sure have changed!

The "off-airport" lot at TJ airport is just on the east end of the parking structure and is 150 pesos for first six days and 130 pesos/day after that.
At todays exchange rate of 14.12/$ the higher price to avoid all the hassel is more than worth it IMO.

I won't do it any other way Woody. My next opportunity is in March of 13...got 2 tix to Guadalajara for my wife and I at $70 roundtrip each on
Volaris! (called my buddy up and he got the same price roundtrip to LaPaz in March of 13 also).
We live in Imperial Beach and last time we did the Delta truck thing...from our front door to the TJ airport was 21 minutes!
Add 10 minutes coming back because of the walk thru.
