how to make Santa Rosalia ferry reservations?
yes, have gone to the ferrysantarosalia.com website
have called the 800 number. the man who answers there says I have to call the Santa Rosalia number
I have repeatedly called the Santa Rosalia number and the woman there just hangs up on me (five or six times so far). I had a friend whose Spanish is
better than mine call and she got the same treatment. the second Santa Rosalia number listed gives a fax tone
I have emailed the reservation address with all the information requested. have had no reply.
has anyone made a reservation recently, if so, how did you manage it??? thanks.

everyone i know has had to go to the office...
and its really expensive...
most say it would be easier and cheaper just to drive...the border is 12 hours from santa rosalia driving...the ferry is a day too

It probably IS cheaper to drive (depending on what you drive) but it is not an easy drive.
I've driven from Guaymas/San Carlos area to the San Felipe south campos TWICE in February. Even leaving at the crack of dawn, I just barely made it to
SF by dark. Checkpoints, road detours and traffic between SF and the farming communities in NW Sonora accounted for much of the delays. All that still
exists, two years later. And, it is a long distance, just that portion. Figure 2-3 more daylight hours right now.
Coming all the way around from SR to Guaymas means either the Gonzaga road or, I assume, the paved road east to Ensenada to SF. Or, I guess there
might be some kind of route past Mike's Sky Ranch. In all cases, it's probably gonna take 2-2.5 days of pretty hard driving.
Figure around 300.00 US for two people and a car under 5.4 meters for ONE WAY on the ferry. Add another 100.00+ US if exceeding that length.
Sounds like maybe the phone number has changed and that lady is tired of answering wrong numbers. I cant help you with a new number.
I am anxiously awaiting the completion of the pavement all the way to Chapala. Looking forward to doing some cabover camping in Baja again. Wont take
the camper on that road, as is. The ferry is prohibitively expensive for my camper. It would be about 600.00 US, ONE WAY, for it and two people.

Here's a suggestion: Why not call Brenda at Las Casitas Hotel in Santa Rosalia and see if she has a different number? Or, if she can go by the office
and get the correct number on one of her trips into SR.
Then, book her hotel the night before you leave!!!
Even if you dont book the hotel, she'll probably be able to get you the correct number.

thanks all. the ventas email (address on website) finally answered and I have a reservation for Sunday.
driving the long way, I usually go through Tecate, is cheaper. but it's summer, I'm driving alone, and I've already totaled one car and walked away
on Hwy 1.
doing the Sunday night ferry means I can drive to Sta Rosalia from Loreto the same day, sleep on the ferry, get a good way up the road on Monday,
spend the night somewhere and get to Phoenix on Tuesday early. in my younger days I used to make it San Carlos to Phoenix in a summer day but the
border wait has gotten longer and the AZ portion of the drive more strenuous/heavy traffic for the end of a long long day.

I'll tell you something about crossing the border at Nogales. IF you use the Mariposa crossing on a weekday and get there before 1030am, the wait is
USUALLY less than a half hour. From 1030-1400 is when the wait swells to 1-2 hours. Then, from 1400-1600, it drops to the point where many report
crossings only taking 10-15 minutes.
I have done San Carlos to Phoenix in one day, twice this year. It's not that bad, now that all the fwy construction around Tucson is largely done.
