Dog 911 - Tijuana-area vets?

Update: I returned from Tijuana exactly 12 hours ago. Frida was stitched together with 4 puntos, and she is just as fun-loving and
aggressive as before this unfortunate accident. After having a wonderful time on Calle Revoluccion (the wife stayed home), CG, his wife Miri, and
next-door neighbor Irma took me to the US Frontera. After showing my US Passport, I was asked what was I taking back into the US?
"Dog Antibiotics" was my response, and I was told, "Okay." A whopping 3 minutes at the border, and I was in San
Ysidro. By 2:15 a.m., Frida and I were at home, and now, she is playing with the other Chihuahua having a great time.
I could not have done this without the help of Nomad 'CG'. His family literally saved my dogs life. I love this dog like it is my own family, so a
minor inconvenience like this one still worked out for the better.
I spent a whole 400 PESOS on the entire treatment. $120 out-the-door for the entire trip + expenses.
In comparison, the 24 Hr. Animal Hospital in Grand Terrace, CA cost $65 for the Emergency After Hours Care + $$Medication +$$$Surgery. There is
literally no way that I could afford this sort of Animal Care. But, putting my little Frida to sleep would never be an option.
Thank God for Mexico being so geographically close to where I live.

My plan will be to leave tomorrow morning after work. My friend CG has a very good veterinarian in Tijuana, but thanks to ------, I now have a
back-up veterinarian located in Playas. Either way, my Frida will be stitched up and ready to play fetch with me all summer long. Its hard seeing
her unwilling to move around.
CG suggested that I purchase Neosporin ointment for the wound. This should keep any possible infections at bay.

Question:
My Chihuahua will be inside of her PetContainer. Should I drive her into Tijuana or will I have a hard time if I walk with her back across the
border? I have to attend a work-related function Saturday morning at 8:30 am.
Not sure if the BP will give me a hard time, although I will have her vaccination papers (which are kinda out of date).
Any advice???

I walked across once with a dog, a medium sized mutt. No problem, no questions, nada. But who knows. You could get a guy that wants to make it
difficult.
"Hmmm, that looks like a Mexican dog, let me see his papers. Where was he born, where's he going, does he have anything to declare?"
Like the shirt, those little guys tend to shiver, don't they?

Ken, kill two birds with one stone (not a good metaphor when saving an animal's life, however)
Get the TJ vet to bring her rabies current,
It will be cheaper, and you will have it out of the way, and she will be legal.
Shari pawned a pooch off on us couple years back in Asuncion, and the guy that was taking her home got scared about losing him, so we stopped in San
Quintin and had all the shots, complete checkup, etc. My recollection was about 100 pesos, sure was not very expensive.

Rabies vaccinations sounds like a great idea, Baja Runner! Thank you for your advice. With my expenses, my house, 2 cars, Insurance, Mortgage, I
have to cut costs wherever I possibly can. Frida's injury really caught me when I least expected it.

I've walked back and forth across the border a few times with my dog and never been asked any questions about her. Mine wasn't in a crate though and
she wan't hurt, both those things could draw attention. I would think they'd want a look inside the crate. May as well get her up to date while your
there as thebajarunner suggested. Let us know how things go. Hope it all turns out well for Frida.

Thanks for posting the pictures of little Frida. Based on what I see and the mechanism of injury, her wound may close on its own without sutures but
she does need antibiotic for a week to 10 days. At this point, nix the neosporin as it'll draw bacteria into the open wound. Clean it and wrap her
securely with gauze or a bandana to keep it protected and get her to treatment asap.
I'm no vet but a human ER tech and surgical assistant here in Mulege at the PAW Clinic btw, so I'm kinda sticking my nose in and neck out a bit for
Frida.

It sounds like you already have a plan for Frida.
I know vets in Rosarito, but do not have experience with vets in Tj.

One more suggestion on shots....
well, two actually,
You need up to date rabies certificates for dog licenses in our county, also to cross the border legally.
And only a vet can issue those, so get that shot now, in TJ where it is cheaper
Second, puppy shots, booster shots, etc. are real easy to administer by you to your pooch. I pick them up at our local feed store, they are real
cheap and I just distract the dog with a goodie while I lift up a hunk of skin off the nape of the neck and the shot is over before the dog gets done
munching the biscuit.
Easy to do, and very cheap. And no papers required

These little dogs. . . .
I always like and had big dogs. My husband was never a dog person, but liked the mid sized dogs.
We could never figure out these great big guys holding and walking their Chihuahua's. . . .
Then we got one. Her name is Candy and she is the life of the party at our house now! She will be 1 next month!

I wanted Frida to get her Rabies shot, but this could not be administered concurrently with Frida's treatment she received. Next time.
