rene's in rosarito
Hey i've noticed alot of work being done inside, any of you rosariters heard any buzz about this?Jan?

I spent a bit of time there. Always interesting. I used to call it The Suicide Lounge. Those ol' expats would be in there at the crack of dawn,
10:00 AM, suckin' em up like there was no tomorrow. One by one, there wasn't.

I agree with you Dennis on your statement
one of my best friends died one night in Rene's after a heavy day of drinking
he was in most every day, God could he drink

Spent many weekends there, was $16 back in the
day, when El Nido cammaron empanizado $5, good old
days, Rene's with the purple felt drapes, that bar
was my first glimpse into the Old Gringo Goes to
Baja to Drink His Life Away, I think most lived in
adajacent trailer park, was in there a couple
yrs. back, as posted all the Old Gringos are
gone, don't see any replacements

yup, plenty of full time locals. rene's dates back to 1925 and at that time rene was the mayor of rosarito and was the one person that was really
instrumental in creating the city that was a favorite with the hollywood crowd. anyway I sure remember the good times and theres alot of history
there, i'd sure like to see it resurrected.

Willardguy, I too have noticed that there has been several trucks out front of Rene's and no furniture in the entry area so maybe some updating being
done. Will try to stop on one of my trips to town and just ask the workers what is up.
This was one of my favorite places to go play pool and even go dancing at night but that was before they had their labor dispute that shut them down.
I have been told that anyone that tries to open Rene's has to pay the issues with the former employees but don't know how true that is. Labor laws in
Mexico are definately in the workers favor, so I would think maybe some form of compensation must be made with the blessing of the Mexican government
agency that oversees this before anyone can officially open and stay open. Take Care & Travel Safe-----"No Hurry, No Worry, Just FUN"

I'm sure a few well placed Pesos will take care of everything and the workers who brought the business to it's knees last time probably won't see
anything.
My Gawd.....they, with the blessing of the government, turn into such predators. The moment someone is hired, the employer turns into his enemy.

Dennis. I like what you said about the Suicide Lounge. I have a chapter in Baja Legends that talks about 'em falling off stools.
