Least amount of ex-pats

Hi All,

After reading this forum for quite a while, I am interested in an area of Baja (north or south) with the least amount of ex-pats. The one criteria would need to be by the sea or ocean. Thanks, Joey

Never been to Baja? Lurking should have given you some ideas. Basic response would be in what season? or what are your basic needs! Welcome aboard! How about Punta Final on the gulf or Punta Baja on the Pacific? Go for it. Tio

Joey, Good question! Maybe the Purisima/Commundo(spelling) area?

Welcome to the sandbox Joey! Your in for a wild ride partner....OK so what else are you interested in? do you like hot weather or cooler?

There are very few expats in central baja on the pacific side...for example at the moment there are 10 expats here in Asuncion...it varies. Fishing villages like San Hipolit0 and Pta.Prieta have a whopping 0 gringos! The nice thing here is that although there are a few expats living here, they are spread out in separate neighbourhoods and mostly have immersed in the culture here having their own mexican friends in the hood. Most gringos who bought here like it because there arent many gringos.

Don't know if you would want to live there,
but your criteria suggests Guerrero Negro,
stateline, between Baja/Baja Sur,
there may be a couple Gringos in GN,
I doubt more than that

Close your eyes, draw your drapes, throw away the cellular, computer and television and there won't be any at all no matter where you are.

¿Habla usted español? ¿Sabe usted las costumbres? ¿Puede existir como la gente méxicano?

Vamos a ver si, you post again. What are the odds?

OGITH is my new restaurant review criterion...Only Gringo In The House.

Yes, I DO live in a gringo community, but, I prefer to hang and Spanglish with locals.

Despite Ensenada's gringo-friendly environment, I can always find a mom/pop shop that serves great value for locals.

El Primo Nava

El Primo Nava is on Lopez Mateos/1st at Hidalgo, approx 5 blocks west of the main tourist district. DELICIOSA

If you are looking for a place to "live" instead of an out of the way backwater camp spot, La Paz, in gringo/mexican ratios would be a great choice. Unlike the beach towns of the Pacific and East coasts and the Los Cabos area it is possible to live in La Paz and rarely see a "merican".

OK joey you passed the "return" hurdle in my book.

I prefer to not live around a gaggle of ex-pats myself. What I wrote is my first post is not a joke. If you don't want to live around other gringos, it is easy to do so in most of Baja California. It is hilarious when I have encountered gringos in a supermarket, they always look away, like people do in a men's restroom.

Bahia Asuncion is like Shari described it to me. It certainly is not gringolandia.

I have lived in both Tijuana and now in Rosarito and I purposefully associate more with Mexicans rather than Americans. So all you have to do is choose to do that rather than isolate yourself in some out of the way (and boring) place esp. if you are single.
I live in Rosarito in a large apartment building with 1/2 Mexicans and 1/2 Americans and find the Mexicans living here much more friendly than Americans (esp. the older age 65+ ones).
So you can choose who to associate and not associate. If you get away from the typical American venues such as Walmart and other American brand stores (which are always more expensive anyway) you will find you can integrate yourself into the local community...and speaking Spanish is definitely an asset.
FYI...Tijuana is FULL of Americans (esp. lower income)due to the persistent bad U.S. economy. It all depends on where you live.

Hi Joey and welcome ! I would definitely go with shari's suggestions of punta prieta or san hipolito. they are gorgeous locations, right on the beach so that meets one criterion and there are NO gringoes there which meets your second criterion.

If you ever did want to see some gringoes - you would have to drive. I bet property is dirt cheap to boot.

good luck !

a good pal of ours is selling his home in the fish camp of San Hipolito (45 minutes south of Asuncion) because he moved to ensenada with his daughter...it IS a great deal...3 bedroom block house across the road from the beach with a great view of the beautiful bay.

It is a nice big lot 1,174 square meters with a garage type shop at the back of the lot....for only $20,000 (US) San Hipolito is a sweet little village...great fishing, some surf, water and power now too...but no cell coverage yet there...so probably no internet...he is eager to sell so U2U me if there is any interest out there.
