Where is a good place to meet someone at the border?

At San Ysidro. I'll be driving across and they will be taking a taxi from the TJ airport.

Is there a place right after the red light/green light to pull over that taxi's can reach?

You could pick them up in the Mexican secondary check area right after you drive across, but it is a real busy place and it would be confusing for both of you. Plus, I'd be worried about the officials telling you to move along if you had to wait.

I'm very familiar wth the area having driven across and walked across many times for years. Here's what I would do:

Have them tell the taxi driver to take them to the McDonalds in Colonia Federal. That is the McDonalds on the Tijuana side that is right at the spot where southbound people walk across. The cab driver will know where it is. Lots of cabs stop there looking for fares. The name of the street is Avenida de la Amistad.

It's in the area of all the pharmacies gringos shop at. It will be a good place for them to wait for you and they'll have no doubts about being in the right place.

You will need to know how to find it after you drive across. It's real close to the border crossing but it is confusing if you're new to the area. Do you know where I'm talking about?

U2U me if not and I'll try to explain.

If you mean by the lighthouse in Playas de Tijuana, that's a good idea! Real easy for everyone involved to find.

Thanks guys, if McD's is tricky to find, Home Depot sounds better. I'm heading South, I a assume HD is on the way if you follow the signs for Ensenada?

The Home Depot in TJ is quite a ways east of the border crossing. You'll need to drive in some heavy city traffic. I wouldn't consider it.

The lighthouse on the beach is a landmark that will be tough to miss, plus it's on your way to Ensenada. A short, very easy detour.

Look at google maps.

McDonalds at either San Ysidro or Otay Mesa. San Ysidro charges everywhere to park and there is a sketchy element there. I prefer picking someone up at Otay Mesa, plus crossing is easier. Plus there is some free parking.

All of the Above Suggestions Involve Lots of Money in Taxi Fees

Especially if they are using a taxi from the TJ airport (airport taxi = ripoff pricing).

Why not have your guests wait at the airport for you to pick them up?

Can you communicate with them by cellphone or text?

In an additional note, I don't know much about this, but I believe the El Camino Real Hotel and Hotel Lucerna (both 4-star establishments) run shuttles from the airport to their locations nearby.

That's true!! Airport taxis are expensive and the lighthouse idea would be the most expensive.

I don't have an idea about how much. Anybody know?

On the main road from TJ to the airport there is a string of rental car companies (Budget, Avis, Hertz). Choose one and meet at their office. The Taxi driver should know where it is, and it's closer from the airport than the border. The taxis from the airport are pretty expensive. One explained to me that they wait in line for a fare, sometimes 2 hours, so they need to charge more.

Did they reopen access to the park again? Last time we rode bikes into there they had closed off the area.
