Duty Tax on TV ?

I want to buy a large TV in the States what is the Tax bringing this item into Mexico?

Do I get any allowed amount for having a FM 3 ?

And if I brought my TV from the States that is used what is the issues? can I bring a used one in without paying the Tax ?

Thanks all

New or used, FM2 or FM3 or not, you are required to pay duty. You may want to consider buying in Mexico to avoid all the hassle. The prices of electronic goods have come down here in Mexico over the last few years and, believe it or not, they now offer warranties and back them up.

Which border crossing was this? I never heard of a discount for FM3, but I'll take it!!!

The prices in Mexico haven't come down anywhere near to make a difference, they are still double or so?

You are wrong weebray there is a definant difference in used vs new a big difference. I did find this out.

I don't know yet about a FM 3 or 2 but will research sounds good J.P. thanks for the info keep it coming.

Buy the way J.P. wow! what a difference of LED-LCD VS JUST LCD OR PLASMA absolutely unreal. what did you pay at Costco and size you purchased?

Guaranteed if it looks new with styrofoam packaging, booklets, tie wrapped cords, Aduana will take a much bigger interest in things. I have declared brand new stuff that I've attached a dymo label maker name address, etc. on the rear, spray painted my name on the box and made it look used. Legally they can tax Chinese stuff 300%. A gentle handshake, buenas dias, and polite concern can really be a deal maker. So can the absence of having the TV inside a new Lincoln Navigator or Cad Escalade. If they quote a real high price, I remain polite and squeal I am a poverty-stricken senior. Doesn't go over too well if they glance down and see your new Rolex when you're shaking hands.

On your receipt MARK DOWN THE MAKE, THE MODEL AND THE SERIAL NUMBER BEFORE YOU GO TO BANJERCITO AND PAY FOR IT. This is your get-out-of-jail-free card should you have to return the TV to the states for warranty.

After polling everyone and checking it out on the Internet We decided on the 47in L.G. LED/LCD It gets a fantastic Picture And has one of the lowest energy Consumption Ratings.

The L.E.D. is suposed to be less trouble and more eaven lighting We didnt go 3D I didnt think it was that great in the 50s. and the glasses you have to wear start at 100dls a pair
Its a high def tv but we dont have the service yet. but as it is the picture is fantastic.

It was 7.26 plus tax .We shopped in Ensenada Costco and the price was about a trade off everyone is selling them and the price has came way down.

We brought down a flat screen tv last week, crossed at San Ysidro. We declared it, paid our duty and no problem.

You don't get a "discount" with an FM-2 or FM-3, but you get a $75 per person allowance. So for my wife and I with FM-2's, we got a $150 allowance. The TV was $400 (I had the receipt from Costco for them). After our $150 allowance, we paid the import duty (15 or 16%, I forget) on the balance of $250, which came to 560 pesos (about $40 USD).

I had other things listed to declare, with estimated values, but they just charged for the TV and let the rest slide.

In and out maybe 15 minutes.

Buena suerte!

really..........it does depend on the wrapping an your car type. We took a washer dryer combo down and it was new but had some dings in it. Not in the box, just slid it into the back of our old suburban. They were not even interested. Nancy
