When Was The Last Time You Used The Ferry?
Describe your experience if you would. Did you dine? Shower? Bring a car? Car permits at Sta Rosalia or only in La Paz? How did you handle the hassle
of finding no easy way to surrender a car permit in Baja California?

Santa Rosalia-Guaymas ferry, 6/10/12. see trip report: 'Sta Rosalia-Guaymas ferry report'
I dined in Sta Rosalia before we left and breakfasted on food I'd brought. also bought some packaged sweet rolls at the concession stand. nothing
there I'd recommend.
didn't shower. paid for a cabin, again, see report.
took my car, but no need for a car permit, as I was headed to Phoenix. if you are headed south, past the free zone, you'd get a car permit at that
point, somewhere before Obregon I believe

1973, Santa Rosalia to Guaymas... they spotted my mom's two little dogs she had in her coat and made us take them to the car for the ride over, lol.
1966, La Paz to Mazatlan... I remember seeing flying fish alongside the ship as we cruised across.

I like David K's story better than mine. At the time it was fun. La Paz to Mazatlan........or actually we went to Topolombampo and remember Mazatlan
heading south shortly thereafter.........
Now, I only remember boarding with my 1993 Isuzu Rodeo, on my way to Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca. Seemed like a short trip but I now read it's like 7
hours? I must've slept............
Great trip. Busted my board on my third wave at Puerto. Brought it all the way back thru inland Mexico, thru DF, San Luis Potosi, Aguascalientes,
thru Juarez, only to decide it was unfixable somewhere and proceeded to throw it in a trash dumpster.
Sorry I have no current info on the ferry -- just a story.................good luck!!! Sure other Nomads will help you out.

We crossed the border at Lukeville in my Tundra.
We rolled into Mazatlan on Feb 1 and went straight to the ferry terminal. We were told there were no cabins available on Feb 3, the day we wanted to
leave for La Paz so we booked seats. The gal said we should check once we were onboard if a cabin might be available. I think they keep one of the
nicer cabins for last minute VIP's.
Once underway we got the VIP cabin. Two bunks. a small desk, toilet and shower. Dinner and breakfast is included in the cafeteria. They gave us ice
for drinks in the cabin. A 16 hour crossing. Slept like a baby. Pete and I were Tin Can sailors in the Navy so this was like the Queen Mary to us.
We were not sure of our schedule so we did not book ahead online. I would do it online next time.
We needed to return to Ajo, AZ so I surrendered the permit south of Lukeville were I originally registered it. Otherwise I think that can be done in
La Paz?? Not sure.
