eTrex30

I recently purchased a eTrex at REI. I wanted to establish the unit in english but ended up with another very foreign language which I don't recognize. It is difficult to reset the unit. I am in Ensenada so it is a problem to call. I have an e mail into the company (REI) but figured I would consult the Nomads.
Anybody experience similiar problems?

Contacting REI for support isn't going to help you. They won't know.

Garmin has a support section on their website.

You must buy maps for Baja separately

Garin says they don't have topo maps for Baja.

They say we have to get the Bird's Eye maps.

Which is fine.

We don't mind buying maps, just want to make sure we get Baja Sur off road type maps.

You might want to look up gotrekkers.com and bicimaps.com
Also, perhaps Nat Geo. might be of interest.

Probably "Hrvatski" - Croatian.

But I think these units are useless for Baja. I doubt there is a downloadable of "offroad type map" for this area, not from Garmin anyway. (And their marine chart for Baja is a joke). Google Earth is the best "paperless map", IMO.

Paper version of Baja Almanac topo album is reasonably good, btw. It won't show some trails but will have all the dirt roads. Don't remember the price, must be less than 1/4 of what you paid for handheld Garmin. Any cellphone will have a GPS that will get your Lat/Lon coordinates, and then you simply look at the relevant page of the Almanac. Elementary, Watson. With 8"x11" "screen".
