Have stayed at the Malarrimo, stopped for the last 6 yrs with dog. Was informed new ownership and positively no dogs, desk, kid was rude and was empty (good don't need our money) If my dog died tomorrow would never stay there again. Dog doesn't bark, sleeps on a rug I bring in for her, and completely housebroken. Went to the Cowboy, clean room and hot showers...

I always stayed at Malarrimo in the past, nice people, great food, pet friendly but unfortunately no more. Rooms are "tired" staff is rude and food has gone down hill.

X2 for the Cowboy, there is a killer taco joint across the street too.....dt

Stay at the Cowboy. Shari from BA has connections there. You can park in the courtyard right in front of your room.

Great place to eat lunch or dinner in front of the Cowboy-same property, try the stuffed baked potato.............or walk down the street (toward Hwy 1) a little way to Las Cazuleas (on your left)....ask for Lion Paw Scallops or the chopped clams in creamy cilantro sauce.

2-star and better is going to be a tough find. The DUNAS, besides the La Ballena supermarket on the right near the huge water tower is people friendly, basic, and thrifty. The rooms at the far end have more comfortable beds. Their WiFI is working now. Dogs are allowed. The place has been proven to be safe over the years.

The Cowboy isn't all that great with animals, either.
Be ready to pay a hefty (for Mexico) dog deposit.

Staff are not welcoming and the restaurant is about non existent.
And rooms are small and cramped.

Wow... Last time at the Malarimo (april 15ish) we had the dog and kids with us, rented two rooms and had no problem with the staff or food. My wifes dog has never crapped on the floor, wish I could say the same for my son Jake (2yr old).:o

Shouldn\'t one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check or Sec.8 housing?

You know, I've always thought if you can trust a dog to behave in a hotel room, why can't he/she be trusted to sleep in your rig overnight?

My 2 dog are more like daughters to me, but occasionally they've needed to camp in the front seat of our truck when a hotel forbids pets.

Has anyone else ever considered this?

I like dogs, cats and most mammalian pets....but am not thrilled to have a room that a critter has been in as some owners are not as conscientious as they might have us believe.

I think it would be best that owners set aside and limit those rooms specifically for pet owners ....but in the real world some motel owners would rather have the business regardless....

I also believe I would rather some rooms I have stayed in had animals as the previous guest as some human animals smell worse than a wet dog and leave more of a mess :O

Can't please everyone.

Still my favorite in GN but then I am a budget traveler. Clean, good beds (firm) and lots of hot water. IMHO the more expensive places in that town aren't worth the rates they charge.

My two dogs actually prefer to sleep in the truck. The truck is very familiar to them. The rooms, and sometimes the dog detectable smells in them, not so.

Another up side to this is that "secure parking" is not an over-riding concern. One 70lb dog in the back of the truck cab and the 80 lb'er inside the rear shell. Good as any car alarm ever made!

It'd take some pretty big cajones to continue the break in after those two sound off. :!:

Everyone knows where you mean... but to help to get it right... the town and lagoon it is named after is spelled GUERRERO NEGRO and are the Spanish words for 'Black Warrior', a whaling ship that went aground while trying to leave that lagoon (which was called Frenchman's Lagoon, before then).

Read more about Guerrero Negro here: http://www.bajabound.com/bajatravel/guerrero_negro.php

David,
Any chance you might have a map, co-ordinates, directions (on a hand-drawn map) to the closest lost mission, some black and white photos, and a link to that you haven't given us yet????;D

I noticed the spelling error and was waiting.....glad I didn't have to hold my breath too long.

Seriously, I knew you would be Ged... and with that leg that dtbushpilot caused you to break (LOL) you need all the oxygen you can get!

I don't think there is even a word in Spanish of 'Guerro' ... yet, even some guidebooks have spelled it that way tisk tisk.

It is a unique place, being a salt mine town originally, and started about 55 years ago.

Take care up there, in the Great White North!

I usually stay in GN while driving either north or south. I always used Malarimos in the past, both camping and their basic rooms. I thought the rooms were fine, but the food never impressed me.

This year I decided to try something different and stayed at Caracoles (sp?) about a week ago; it's just a block east of Malarimos. Friendly staff, wifi, and english tv channels, it was perfect. I think I saw a sign that they were pet friendly, but I'm not 100% sure.

At half the price of the others ($22) you get almost all the same amenities (I don't need a mint on my pillow). Dunas is a good choice for the budget traveler.

lol... you've got an anti-theft device built right in!

My girls are tiny by comparison, but nothing startles my eardrums faster than their shrill barking.

Roosters crowing at the butt-crack of dawn affect me the same way. :o
