Alaska airlines rumor

The latest rumor circulating here in La Paz is that Alaska will be suspending their direct flights into LAP on April 6. Can anybody verify? I find it hard to believe because since they changed to a puddle-jumper and reduced to only 3 flights a week, every flight has been filled to near capacity but I guess one never really knows.

Just see if the reservation page will accept a mock reservation on some date after April 6th. Then exit the screen.

I have a paid reservation for June 3rd, and haven't received any emails from Alaska regarding my reservation, so I'm thinking it's an unfounded rumour....

Uh, why not call Alaska and ask them?

I tried to book a flight for next April (just to see), it was rejected. The reason given was "no flights available". No further details were listed.

Too strange elskel, because I called Alaska and spoke to an agent to check my confirmed reservation, and she said there has only been a minor scheduling change, time-wise, and that my reservation is unaffected...hmmmmm

Well maybe the Hawaii market has something to do with it. The best website I know of is fly.com, to get the cheapest flights. Alaska has been consistently substantially cheaper than Hawaiian airlines flying to Honolulu from San Diego, and they are expanding their flight service to Maui. I have been flying Alaska Airlines the last few months to Hawaii, and they have a killer deal about upgrading to first class the last minute if all the seats aren't taken for $150 American. To upgrade on Hawaiian, the cost is over $1000. Alaska has great service with very nice flight attendants.

Well Latina ....

From what I tried, it's not looking good for your flight on June 3, 2012.

First I tried to make a reservation for June 3rd from LAX to La Paz. No flights available!

Then I tried their low fare system which shows the cost for flights on different days for about a week around the day you select. ( June 3rd) No flights available!

Then I tried the same thing for the week around April 6th. There are flights before April 6th but there are NO flights shown after April 6th.

This post WAS talking about flights to La Paz and not to Cabo. Cabo is still available. If you truly have a reservation to fly into La Paz on June 3rd, I think that I'd be looking into some alternate arrangements.

Just saying ......

Very strange...My confirmed and paid-for flight is from La Paz to LAX and when I called with my confirmation code yesterday to check if the flight has been cancelled I was told by the agent that there was only a slight time change...at least there are alternatives and June is a long way off...

Maybe they've decided to bus you to Cabo and they arent telling you............yet.

We've had our only flight into Guaymas cancelled. Those who had booked after the termination date were bussed to Hermosillo.

Alaska schedule

I checked the Alaska schedule for La Paz through June and starting in January they reduce their flights out of LAX to one day a week - Saturday. Then after Sat. April 6 there are no flights. Doesn't look good.

Another nail in the coffen for Baja tourist dependant businesses.

Not room for many more nails!!

Many folks won't do that drive for a variety of reasons and with fewer and fewer flights to international airports in BCS....it's not looking good folks.

I am curious about what is behind this decision. I take this flight relatively frequent and every flight is filled to near capacity. How can it NOT be profitable?

I guess I'll be cancelling my flight and booking to San Jose with another carrier...I think it is odd that I haven't received any email regarding my reservation and the agent reassured me that my flight was a go...obviously not the case if it is impossible to book a flight for my dates on their website!

For me, this will be an inconvenience, but what effect will it have on the local economy? Unless another airline steps in to service La Paz, there will be no international flights to the city...

Let's hope that Carlos Slim gets to arrange for landing rights in some southern US cities, so Volaris could start some much needed routes to Baja destinations.

Just met a stewardess that works for Alaska Airlines, and its official, they will be scaling way down in Mexico...except for Puerto Vallarta, mainly because of the "dangers" according to her, don't shoot the messenger, folks.
