According to the office of Cultural Events, the parades & celebrations will be held "el martes 20 de noviembre, 2012 en todo Baja California".

So do I complain to them if I am held up by parades....I'm only speaking from personal experience. For the past three years, I have encountered parades on Saturday. Three years ago, the holiday fell on Saturday but the past two years it has not.....never mind.....

I do appreciate your effort, though.

Bajaboy, Maybe it wouldn't hurt to contact Amy Grier. Amy is the new public affairs officer in Tijuana. She is responsible for cultural affairs for Baja, Baja Sur, and Sonora.
She is a nice young lady from New Hampshire, and she recently replaced Joe Crook at the TJ Consulate office. BTW, the new US Consul General in TJ is Andrew Erickson. He oversees Baja and Baja Sur. This guy is from Oakland, CA.

Have a great trip. When we run into parades, we just love and enjoy them very much. good luck to you Amigo.

Thanks, I shot off an email to Antonio at Baja Cactus. I'm going to ask around in San Quintin as well.

Yea, please post. I think I'll just go down hwy 5 just after the 1000. That way I won't hit any parades and won't have to worry as much about the psycho drivers heading back with their trailers of racing vehicles. Those guys have really scared me!

Seems as though it's celebrated on the third Monday in November:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_holidays_in_Mexico

http://www.newswithviews.com/Wall/allan123.htm

"Well, it’s called November 20th,although it’s now officially celebrated on the third Monday of November,"

I'm still waiting to hear back from a few sources. I might shoot out a few more emails later. I'll let you know what I hear.

so I asked at the high school here in la bocana and they said that Monday - the 19th is an official school holiday and no one would "work" on that day by holding the paradeon that day. So, this year, all the parades will be on Tuesday the 20th.

Ergo, the parade depends on what day the 20th falls on and more importantly, when the school official holiday is. No one wants to "work" on an officially paid day off.

I sure hope those of you who will travel on Monday encounter no parades, but if you do, please send the complaint to the complaint department !!

Okay got word from a very trusted source that the parade in San Quintin will be on the 20th. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this translate into reality.

I saw a post yesterday at the local high school that the official holiday for public schools has been changed to the 16th November rather than the 19th due to the BAJA 1000. I will confirm this on Monday.
