Funny you should bring this up. A few weeks back I was checking on one of our wholesale customers and asked her if she wanted any Almanacs. She
looked at it and asked me, "what exactly is an almanac? I just took the citizenship test and one of the questions was about Benjamin Franklin's
"Poor Richard's Almanac"........
I was impressed. Of course, I could not answer her question.
With the help of the American Heritage Dictionary, I discovered the following:
NOUN:
1-An annual publication including calendars with weather forecasts, astronomical information, tide tables, and other related tabular information.
2-A usually annual reference book composed of various lists, tables, and often brief articles relating to a particular field or many general
fields.
So to REALLY go off topic.....wonder why they called the map book an almanac.

There was one Ben Franklin question but it was about his employment by the government.

Yeah Hook, that one got me too. I plugged in the ratification date! I also stopped at 23 Amendments. 94/96, I get to stay, and vote with some
knowledge of what I'm doing.

I suspect that the questions vary. Back when I ripped-off the VA by attending the Bill Wade School of Broadcasting in San Diego, the 1st. Class
Radiotelephone Operator's License tests were about 5, but they all had the SAME KEY. We memorized a poem, part of which went"...Can An Endless Era
Come Down Boom" the letter answers to the multiple choice questions.

Guess I did okay for a Canadian. I got 78 %. It would be interesting to see how many of my American friends could do that well on a similar
Canadian test.

Well, being the originators at MANY (but not all) things related to a true democracy does make for universal inspection and memorability. That
distinction does belong to the United States.
Some would day DID belong to the United States, these days............
I imagine we dont study the who, when, and where of democracy in other countries because it IS significant that the US created much of this model for
the world, at large. If it had been created in Canada or even Myanmar, we probably would have a better understanding of the civics of that country.
It's the model that's studied.
Or, if your struggles for democracy had taken the form of the Reign of Terror during the French Revolution, we might know more. 
The people now referred to as Americans were the first to fire the "shot heard 'round the world". It's not surprising that many other peoples heard
it.
As far as having a knowledge of some of our political leaders; unfortunately, our leaders do have a way of pushing themselves around in the world.
How did you acquire so much knowledge of American civics and history as a Canadian? Was it taught to you in a Canadian school?
