Harley Run to Baja - Cuatro Casas - FNG

Hello Baja Nomads
Saw this site and I am completely impressed with how everyone works together and help each other out. Thank you in advance for any help and advice.
I live in Menifee, Ca and I am trying to put a Harley run to Cuatro Casas just north of San Quintin and was looking for any advice as far as traveling down Baja with regards to safety, concerns, places where I should and should not stop, stuff like that. I will have mexican insurance and hopefully a few buddies ridding with me, but it may be a solo mission.
I am also hoping to find a few more places like Cuatro Casa, same type of location, prices, location type (middle of no where but still safe enough to live my Harley unattended but with in reach of lobsters and beers). I heard some folks have homes down on beach that are for rent, but not sure how or where to locate them.
Again, just looking for some help, figured since you guys all live the life, you would be able to help a guy out. Thank again

1. Don't let the Harley out of sight or out of reach.

2. Bring a large chain/cable and lock. Lock the bike to something solid and permanent.

3. Bring a tarp and take the bike into your room at night.

4. Wear a helmet.

PS: hopefully you don't have any of those loud obnoxious after market exhaust pipes.

The place has seen many Harley's. Don't worry about the bike at Cuatro. Rico will take care of it. As for the rest of Baja do as Bajaguy says....

The last time I was at Quatro Casas it was a very dusty, dirty drive in there. :P

Your pretty shiney toys will get very dirty.

PS worth it once you get there.

Thank you guys, all of the info is helping out. Does anyone know of another place like Cuarto Casas, looking for another destintion to go to while I am down there. Hoping for a place that is not that expensive, but still on the beach with good people, cheap accomidations, food, beer and fun. Also had another question that is off topic. I have been reading that people have been travelling down there with their dogs, what is the process on that and is it worth it?

All you really need to take your dog is the current vaccination record from your Vet showing that the rabies shot is up to date. Just go by your Vet and ask for a printout.

Agree on bringing the dog (s.) Just have shots current along with heartworm etc. We keep our dogs on Frontline Plus for fleas and ticks. Just a word of caution- many travelers go into Baja with one or two dogs and leave with two or three!!

How I would feel about my bike in Baja: I wouldn't let it out of my sight. If I was in a restaurant, it would be in my line of sight.

Trust that in 5 minutes it could be gone.

While traveling and stopping for fuel, food and water, absolutly will not let it out of my sight. Still worried about over night though. Looking for a good hostel in San Felipe or near it, any ideas or suggestions?

Like Woody said, bring a lock, plan on parking your bike in your room. Bring a tarp -- find a room where this is possible. Don't know San Felipe.

Cuatro Casas is a great place. I would suggest that you go in via Camalu though. Stop at La Cueva la Pirata Hotel/Resturaunt/Bar on the bluff for some food and drinks, or stay the night for 400 pesos. If you go to Cuatro Casas via the Colonet side the wash is very soft sand/silt and may be tricky on a Harley.

Get a more Baja friendly bike, I just picked up a '96 Suzuki DR650, for $1900, same as the current models and great for Baja roads. About as fast as a HD.

"Looking for a good hostel in San Felipe"...........

Just what is your route? Are you taking a HD down Mex 5 to Mex 1? Being a bike rider also....I would never take a HD on a dirt road.
