...so we're driving through tecate southbound TODAY and i'm right in the middle of telling my honey about all the mordita crap going on here lately and the blue lights go on behind us...sheesh!...i'm headed for the pemex up on the upper part of town so i keep on going till i'm parked at the pump and the cop behind me is peeED...really peeED cause i didn't stop in the middle of a busy road...i get out and walk back to his car and he gets out and starts the usual intimidation crap to get me shivering in my boots.."how long have you been coming to mexico?"..."do you know the traffic laws here?"..."why are you so unsafe?"....etc, etc....AND...why didn't you stop when i put my lights on you.......well....i was ready for his b.s....i just got really close to him and said it was all about safety....he said he stopped me because i stopped at a red light and didn't turn right on the red and impeded traffic...sure...i cited safety.......ok...why didn't you stop when the lights came on?...too many people on the road; unsafe for conditions....uh huh, yeah....THEN, i gave him the closer...i said i had been a law enforcement officer for 20 years and it was all about safety of the citizens and he just crapped....all of a sudden, conversation over!....he THANKED me and wished me a felize navidad and i thought he was gonna buy me a tank of gas, fer gawds sake......stand up to these guys and they'll back down just about everytime.......doesn't hurt to be a retired cop, either....a very, very funny time at the crossing....will be in mulege by friday..

I have always carrie a 4lb. shop hammer under the front seat. It has many useful purposes. When I was trucking I used it to check my tires. It's been looked at several times but never a issue.
We went through Tecate yesterday at 9:20 am and crossed at 10:30 am. not bad for pre holiday traffic.

I drive with a machete next to my drivers seat, a necessary item in Baja, and no one has ever said a word about it.
