Any ideas how to help this sea lion? UPDATE
UPDATE to Sea Lion wrapped in net:
So, after dozens of calls to everyone we could think of, my wife was finally able to speak with Sarah Wilkin of NOAA, who, after seeing these same
disturbing pictures, put her in touch with PROFEPA in San Felipe. They were awaiting the phone call and made the trip down to PF within the week...
conditions were too windy to do anything so they returned on Dec. 28. They met us at our house and I took 3 of the 5 of them out on my boat to the
rock island (see pics), Conrado Perez headed the operation along with his coworkers, they netted the sea lion, once into the truck drove her 5 hours
north to Mexicali to Vets Julio Mercado and Sergio Mercado of the zoo of Mexicali, who volunteered to help the sea lion. After 2 weeks, Conrado and
his colleagues of PROFEPA, along with a few others, drove the recovered gal back to PF and released her back into the water. She is expected to
recover fully, see attached pictures. We are so grateful to Conrado, PROFEPA, and the vets who cared for her and look forward to having a good
relationship with them in the future.

Try the Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito, Calif. They have a # to call to report a distressed marine mammal. It's 415-289-SEAL(7325). They are
connected with Sea World in San Diego, who would deal with marine mammals in SoCal.

Completely out of my area of expertise to directly help but...Probably a long shot. Never under estimating the innovation shown by Baja natives, If
any of the local Mexicans think they might be able to get the net cut off the unfortunate animal without causing further harm, I will offer a $500
reward. Of course verified by photos showing her successfully returned to the water under her own power. Is there anyone in the area who could
organize or oversee this effort?

That's a generous offer. I'll throw in some $ too. We are heading back there on Dec.27th. I'll put the word out and see if I can encourage some
interest.
The pictures were from my kayak. I was so close to her that I reached out with the paddle to gently touch her. I had my knife ready. Well, she
didn't like that. I think a throw net and a couple guys to hold her down so no one gets bit.
I should have internet down there. I'll post any news.

Just an update. Profepa has shown up. They have seen the sea lion. It's been blowing for days, so its still too rough to try anything. They said
they will return after Christmas.
We will be there on Thurs. Hopefully to give them a hand if they need it.

Great news Brewer! Appreciate all of your effort and what a successful result. My offer to help financially still stands, and U2 me with a way to get
the money to distribute to whoever you choose. I can bank wire transfer to any account you can give me the bank routing number or whatever works. Good
to hear you were able to muster the necessary resources to get the job done. Congratulations, one less animal suffering in Baja.

Outstanding!!!
Now if we could help one of the sea lions I see every year out at Santa Barbara Island (CINP) with a monofiliment necktie.

I dont see a 'update' either......did I miss it somehow?
Old people are like the old cars, made of some tough stuff. May show a little rust, but good as gold on the inside.
