Garmin issue?

Garmin hand-help, Oregon 400C, the 'marine' version. When navigating in the map section, the screen goes to solid yellow when zooming in below the 5 mile bar. The roads and place names are still there, just no map. Every once-in-a-while, the zoom will work below the 5 mile distance bar, but most time just yellow.
I've down loaded the latest software and sent off a request to tech support.
Anyone else have this issue with their Garmin?

I wonder if it is info overloaded? My Garmins eTrex Legend has Baja Norte topos in it, and it blanks-out after some minutes, requiring me to pull the batteries and restart it... It is pretty old and my original Garmin eTrex (yellow) still works (no maps in it).
