Old Mill Hotel, San Quintin
Does anyone know if they are currently open? I had read they opened this summer after being closed for some time.
Is the same American couple running the operation? Nice folks they were, always gave you a very cold Pacifico when you checked in.

Thanks for the update. Sorry to hear the other managers have moved on.
How was the food at Molino Viejo? We had a very good meal there last year. If you remember, you were there at the same time that night we discovered
later.

two weeks ago it was not open. The dirt rod (5 miles) is super torn-up.
We stayed at Hotel Valle De San Quintin (look for the red & white microwave tower in the middle, East side, of town).
460 Pesos
great, quiet rooms
new beds
superb food at the restaurant on premises
room service you can charge to your room

The Old Mill Hotel was open today under the same ownership. The road from the highway is open and very passable. There's still a few small lakes,
but it has been graded and detours made.
Haven't heard any rumors about the ownership of the hotel changing.

Thanks Udo, I have stayed at Valle San Quintin back in Oct of 2005 when it was pretty new.
Old Mill is one of the "old school" places that i like to frequent in Baja. Plus, the first class restaurant u can walk to next door makes it a great
combo. Bad road in is the norm, take it slow and its no problem.

If you are in San Quintin, the best hotel is jardines, just past the old mill
turn, KM 1 go right, 1/2 mile turn left at the tee 200 yards on right.
cant miss, it look for palm trees. great place! great people! app 45.00 us.
may need reservation. big sign at turn! There is a great restaurant next
store.

Yes, Jardines is one of our favorites and has gotten our business at least once coming or going since 2008. Couldn't ask for nicer owners and the
daughter that runs the restaurant next door as well.

Jardines was packed again. Had to go to Hotel Cirios as we had dogs.
Ken, yes I remember we almost crossed paths a year ago at Old Mill. The food the other day was great. Shrimp linguini. Filet mignon. Mmmmmmmm.
As far as the hotel being open, just going off what the waiter said. I didn't visually see anything open. The road was fine. Some water sections but
totally passable in any car.

Try the paprika stone crabs next time. Sometimes you have to ask, as it isn't always on the menu, I was told.

I used to stay at Hotel Cirios because I have a dog. Very nice people that run it. The rooms are "basic" at best, but cheap. That's usually OK with
me, but while there one winter I froze my butt off. It was foggy and the room had no heat. To make it worse, the sheets were damp. It seemed like they
washed them and hung them out in the fog to "dry". I couldn't sleep all night!
Needless to say, Never again in the Winter! If Jardines is full I will move on to Baja Cactus in El Rosario. In fact, that is always my first choice
if there is enough daylight left to make the extra miles to El Rosario. The best thing to do is call the Baja Nomad San Diego phone number to make
reservations. I don't have it handy now but maybe some other Nomad can provide it.
Jardinas is well worth it though, if you can get in. The grounds are beautiful and the food it the best until you can get to Mulege. The only
disappointment is, if you have a pet they give you a designated room which is not nearly as nice as their other rooms. It is comfortable though...and
heated. Plus, they are in the front building right behind the office. There is always activity there and it is not the quietest.
I have never stayed at The Old Mill but I have eaten there. It was just OK. The road is what it is. I have stayed in my RV in the park right in front
of The Old Mill.
After my Winter experience at Cirios, I always wimp out and bring a space heater and sometimes an electric blanket. One dog is not enough!  (Just kidding. Paco is never permitted on a bed. Therefore it doesn't even occur to
him to try.)

Another alternative is what used to be the La Pinta --- now the Hotel Mision Santa Maria ---- nice rooms, good heater, very friendly and helpful
staff, good restaurant, DOG friendly, quiet, and there is a huge parking lot where you can walk your dog, and you are on the beach which is great for
the dog.

Has anyone tried the Mission in San Quntin we eat breakfast there when we go down never have stayed in the motel but it looks nice we always go in our
Rv. because we take our dogs.

For the last couple of decades the restaurant and the hotel, while being called the same name were always different owners. Not the best of
neighbors, I have been told.
The restaurant, now called by it spanish name, Molino Viejo, is owned by the Los Pinos folks. They have spent a fortune remodeling it with old
trestle wood and it is impressive. Although a restaurant can vary with who's cooking any given night, when we ate there last year it was very good.
I will reporting on it next time down, as we plan to eat there again.

Oh that is a REAL understatement.
What has happened over the last 20 years would make for a good book. Lots of intrigue, lots of characters--- good and shady ones, lots of lawsuits,
and many, many grey areas.
On edit, I forgot to tell you how much I really like that photo---really like it.

We were just there and think it is still very good and becoming popular with the locals. Stayed at the old La Pinta as DianaT suggested because we
had our dog with us. There is also a nice museum there.

“Quick Fishing Trip”
Reviewed May 3, 2012 My wife and I just took a quick fishing trip down to San Quintin Baja CA.
We stayed at the Old Mill Hotel which just recently reopened under new ownership. We were very impressed with everthing about it. The new owner was
very cordial and even offered us a beer upon check in. The room was completly renovated, immaculate, had very hot water and every switch and plug
worked, which is unusual for a lot of places down there. The daily maid service was great as well. Our room was only $42/night and very large (about
15 x 20) and the bathroom, with a 4' x 6' shower was also huge (about 15 x 10). The Old Mill restaurant next door, which is no longer part of the
hotel, had great food and drinks at reasonable prices. Other nearby restuarants with good food that we ate at are Jardines Baja and Celito Linda.
Room Tip: Stay in the newly remodeled section (or the new addition for more$)
