Los Vinedos Rest. Tecate

Tuesday morning, on the way north, I caught this restaurant out of the corner of my eye and had to turn around and go back. First time crossing at Tecate, and not wanting to chance a long wait on an empty stomach, we stopped for breakfast. First thing to get my attention was cleanliness, then the pleasant reception offered by the owner, Esperanza. The coffee, served in a cup with saucer, was very good. When Esperanza placed some chips and salsa on the table I thought the chips looked overdone. Wrong, They were delicious and the salsa, freshly made by Esperanza was the best I've had. Breakfast fare was pretty basic and I chose the omelet a la Mexicana. It too was very good. And to top it off, the prices were very reasonable. I will be making my monthly pilgrimage to San Diego by way of Tecate from now on, and this will be my stop on the way.
The border crossing was another pleasant surprise. Pleasant, cheerful agent and less than 30 min. to cross.

I'll probably stop there for dinner on the way back next time as well.

Oh, Yeah,
Los Vinedos is located on the highway just before dropping down into Tecate at about the 6.5 km marker. Same folks one the motel, Tecate Inn across the highway from the restaurant. Enjoy
