Todos Santos

While my wife and I were down in LaPaz for the Baja 1000 we had an enjoyable trip over to Todos Santos, and spent just a day there.
Initial impressions were:
Really nice area
Friendly people
Artist area
Likely good fishing
Could launch a small boat off the beach down by co-op fisherman?
Many different choices of places to live - City, rural, on the coast, developments
Close enough to LaPaz for city needs, but still :small town".

I saw Tio and BFS commenting in the Real Estate thread on a house there.
Any observations on living in Todos Santos as a retirement spot?
Thanks,
Mike

I've been living in the area for 20 years, your observations are spot on, this is a great community.

Beach launching there can be done but its a tricky business. I have seen a few tin boats get tossed in the surf.

Warm your motor up before you launch. Get the boat out far enough to start the engine and have someone hold the boat bow to the waves. Watch the wave sets and pick your lull. Give it hell and hope for the best. Make sure your anchor and line are adequate and ready to use. If you lose power you are up on the rocks fast.

Pull squids for sierra and plugs for pargo up against the rocks. You can hang a big rooster there as well.

Claro que si! Come down and rent a place for a few months. Really get a feel if you like it. Mostly positives. There are a few small things like our rash of recent burglaries and giant potholes in town but this is an overall Magnificent area. Bienvenidos, Amigo. Tio

I second Tito's remarks. Rent for at least 3 months and get a feel for the different neigborhoods. They are all very different with plusses and negatives. There are hundreds of properties for sale and the market has bottomed out, but don't buy in a hurry. Check out the diversity of the town and area around it first.

We have had many Star sightings but I never knew Michael's brother Tito had a place? Maybe a Reunion or Benefit Concert for aging Surfers!? :tumble::tumble: Tito aka Tio

A few years back my wife and I enjoyed a good burger at "Shut up Franks" when we needed to watch some sports (by "we needed" I mean "I").

Is "Shut Up Frank's" still around? What's a good spot to watch the Superbowl next Sunday? Go 9ers! :)

LOL, Nomads always know where the cold ones are, the good food being cooked right, the easy cantina to watch some sports and of course where to put your boat in to catch fish, AHHHHHH Baja don't you just love it???
Todo Santos still has an appeal that makes you stop on your way through. Is the road finished now outside of Todo Santos going toward Cabo?? Take Care & Travel Safe "No Hurry, No Worry, Just FUN" bajafun777

And the road in town, from Otre Lado to La Pastora is in great shape. About 2km paved and 2 km well graded almost ready for paving.

Yeah, that's dry now. It's a section that runs through an aroyo and the pavement won't go as far.
Inauguration of the first section was today.
Crazy the way they prepared for that. About 12 men sweeping the street this morning. Many road signs, too many cross-walks and handicapped access on the sidewalk painted many, many times but there are impossible places cause of poles that are in the middle of the sidewalk leaving not enough space to even squeese a cart through.
