They plan to cross the Saturday of Easter weekend and be there the following night.(Easter Sunday night.) What a difference a day makes.

Thanks for all the recommendations and responses. DavidE you paint quite the ummmm, interesting picture. :) FYI the trailer is a good trailer. We will have spare bearings and tire(s). The critical fasteners are marked and safety wired (I believe in prevention of the problem) since my motorcycle is my “other woman”.

MMc when you mention that the trailer and kayaks make us a “target” do you mean a target of the Police or of the more unsavory character types we might run into.

Bajaboy and shari the Pacific Coast looks wonderful, but we have experienced the cold Pacific before and are looking for warmer waters. Basically my kids have never been snorkeling where the fish have color and the water is warmish. That is why we are aiming for the SoC.

Just to be clear, is the week leading up to Easter the wild and wooly week, the week after Easter Sunday or both?

Again, thanks for all of the replies. Each post has given us more to think about.

UTAHMAN

Hola, spent a month out there in the mountains around "sandy" had a good time...Any way to answer you last question...It start up to week before...during and after as I posted here earlier....I don't drive during that time/season and DO NOT recommend to anyone to make a trip during said time...Its a known FACT the roads are full of Crazy drivers going south to Claim their spot,,then all week party,,Then they Race like hell to get back to work in the USA....I have been preaching this for over 30 years !! You have been Warned !! Have a great,Fun,Safe Trip....K&T PS...If its your first trip down, you might want to pass on towing a trailer...

Uathman, Yes, to both, as to being a target. Cops will look at you as a quick money maker. Bad guys will see a opportunity. Deal with the cops as you see fit and lock everything on the trailer, You'll be fine.

There are whole threads as how and best practices with cops.

Mexico didn't adjust school breaks like America did.The crowds are Mexicans mostly. See Shrai's note about GN. She lives in Baja full time knows it better then most of us.
The week BEFORE is the rough week. Saturday, the day your are going into Baja will be the worst. It's all over by Sunday night. The week after Easter Sunday is pretty much like any other week.

Don't over think this. Just go and have a great time with the family.
We are like fans, and Monday quarter backs. It's your trip and it will be one for YOU to remember, not us.

Palm Friday to Easter Sunday is considered Easter Week by most of the Christian world.

warmish water...well, depends on your definition, but most of us here wouldn't get in the water in April nor June without appropriate wetsuits.

both weeks are bad on beaches that are fairly accessible to traffic, can't say about out of the way ones, but here in Loreto...packed.

Have spent the last 7 years in santispac area(mulege area) and have never had a problem. Yes the Easter week the beaches are full with inlanders, but most leave Sat or Sun Easter Day. The Tuesday after would work fine, cross at TJ is easy and well marked. I leave Chula Vista AM to Guerro Negro 9 hrs and 4hrs next day to Mulege. Treat the ck points with respect as they are only doing their job and they are no problem NO DRUGS NO PROBLEM
Have FUN as that what Baja is about

Was there a specific reason to get to Mulege, other than it is the "Hawaii of Baja" as one web site calls it and yopu were there before? What is the max. days you can be in Mexico?
Is camping some of the nights and motels the others what you wish to do?
San Ignacio is very close to the atmosphere of Mulege, without the ocean... a tropical river/ lagoon surrounded by desert... and old Spanish mission... etc.
Check out http://ignaciosprings.com and stay in a luxury yurt... some with wildlife experience! Camping nearby on the river, Desert Inn (? or new name) hotel, motels, Casa Leree Inn for traditional place next to the mission plaza. Ricardo's Rice and Beans motel closer to the highway.

In the summer, it is one long day's drive to the border, but two would be better (El Rosario's Baja Cactus motel with the big family room and upstairs loft is the place)... that is 5-6 hours from the border making your trip most restful and less stressful!:light:

Thanks for all of the replies. I think we'll postpone our trip until June. This will actually give me more time to finish building my wife's kayak. The water will be warmer and the beaches less a sea of drunken humanity. Thanks again, I will now go back to lurking and will post our June experience when we get back.
